Any chance of hearing which mods we can expect to be running in the OW category for the 08 World Championships? I imagine it's probably up for decision still, but would R2P be interested in hearing feedback from the OW community on mods they think are worthy of the category? If possible, it would be nice to get an idea earlier on so we can use those occasional free periods to start practicing new cars we might not run.

In case there's interest in community feedback, a few mods I've run that I think might be good to consider (covering the whole gamut of OW cars) are in no particular order:

F1
FBMW
FNippon
FTrainers
Champcar

Those are pretty much all the ones I've tried and I thought they were all of terrific quality.

Good question, but more important than that would be knowing which games we need. Theres really only two choices for the open wheel class, rFactor or Race07, but with Race07 being dropped from the current schedules, will it still be included in the Championships? I'd imagine that there will be at least a few of us who would need to buy that if we wanted to make the events and it would seem like a waste to buy a game for what may amount to one race ever.

As for rFactor mods to be included, my choices:

FBMW
F3
R2P's FIS mod (have to include at least one oval)
Champcar
F1

Dennis: While it's not official, I did ask that question in the qualifiers thread (sort of out of place, sorry) and Tim responded that it doesn't appear that Race07 will be included due to the massive problems with that title. And while I own a copy of Race07, I sincerely hope it stays this way because I don't even have it installed and if it's required to compete in the championships, I won't be entering, as I don't even want to litter my otherwise well-running sim machine with STEAM bullshit.

With the issues that RACE 07 has, I could not include in the the championships. rF is the only one to consider for the open wheel races at this time. I suppose GTR Evo is a possibility, but we will not know on that for a while.

I do like the conversation about mods though. Normally I would just bring this up to the beta-guys, but by all means through your suggestions at me.

I'm only going to participate in rFactor races...I've tried the others and find them lacking.

Now that Race07 has been patched to correct the pitting issue, is there any likelihood of its inclusion into the WC08?

Yes, highly possible.

I was leery of Steam at first as well, but turns out to be nothing. If you're thinking of running GTR Evo, you're going to have Race 07 and Steam anyway, so give it a thought.

As for not having a title or not liking a title, that is fully your choice, but consider:

Sims are the "equipment" of sim racing. Each one has its own characteristics, just like the equipment of real-world racing. We already run series championships focusing on one car or group of cars. The World Championships are designed to find the Mario Andrettis of sim racing, those drivers who can jump into any piece of "equipment", adapt to its characteristics and excel.

Thought the whole point was to, like you said, jump into anything and go? I don't think we should have an opinion. We shouldn't know whats coming at us. We really shouldn't have any clue whats coming. I like that idea of it.

I think we should have as much variety as possible, including different games. I like Champcars, FIS 08, F1, F3, F3000 (Race 07). Just an opinion.
