Hello GDC-ers.

I have spent most of the day evaluating our current mod. And though I find the challenge of it enjoyable, I fear that it is going to take the focus off of going wheel to wheel and having fun. Which, if you recall, is the very reason we started the GDC.

Tim and I are evaluating other MODS as we speak and you all should look for a change before the first event. The http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=FVRV8%5F08 is a very likely candidate.

I'd agree with that - the field was way too spread out and the cars required immense tweaking.

Are you not interested in Tommy's R2P FIS mod? Default setup is good, ovals and road courses catered for, might even get a few guys from the popular IRL series entering for some door-to-door practice and the mod has been somewhat proven by the sort of people that race at R2P.

That actually looks very very interesting, Mark. Now that you bring up a change, I agree that this is a better direction for GDC than the GP2 mod. Granted, I haven't driven your suggestion, only read up on it (where I have driven the GP2). But I think the GP2's are quite a handful for novice, and casual for-fun drivers.

EDIT: and now that I see Jonty's post... I think *any* of the very fast mods might take the focus away from what GDC has targeted. So I personally wouldn't care to see Tommy's (excellent) FIS mod.

IMHO Slower makes for closer and less demanding racing.

Good feedback here.

I am in fact reviewing some of TC’s work as one of our options.

One thing that makes this difficult is that fast cars are more likely to bring out more folks. And since it is important to keep the server population up (say 10 plus) on a weekly basis, it is a factor I must consider. I like the idea of door slammers (and the sounds in this mod are quite inspiring) because it creates a sense of variety. Also, the physics are very forgiving which is a positive as well. I am not sure at this point whether we will go with the GP2 for one more week, or if we will push a change. I will need to be sensitive to what Tim has going on with R2P as a whole before I can tell you more.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience and know that I do not like going back on a decision. But I would rather make a change fast and now, than to drag it out and have folks leave because they are frustrated.

Stay tuned.

After spending many hours and laps (700 plus) learning the GP Mod and being a total novice, I have a few observations.
First, the obvious.. it is, initially, very difficult to keep under control, but with enough time it can be done. I wonder however, if many people will have the time or patience to devote to this end. Mark's decision to make a change is in the best interest of GDC's goal and I am ready to move on. Looking forward to it..actually.

Thanks for the support Jim.

It was actually in testing the set you sent me and working on one of my own that I came to write the "Uh Oh" email to Tim. I even experimented with allowing TC and still found the cars to be...well... a mess. I am not sure why I did not see this when I first tested them. I think because I did so at Indy and the course was open enough that it seemed a set could be worked out. But in going to 3 rivers.....eeesh.

i accidentally ran practice with TC and SC the other night and had a pretty good time, was running at next weeks track (something in austarlia) rear end was a bit loose but no where near what i experienced at the indy race, but i have to agree a bit slower would mean more comfortable and closer racing for my experience lvl.
i like open wheel better then SC but i can get my OW fix driving f3, so im game where ever you decide to take us.

Have you tried the Formula Nippon 2007 mod.

It is pretty fast but not so tricky to drive.

What I found interesting is I am watching the GP2 Series on the SPEED Channel (Ok SPEED I want my money for this lol)

What I want to say is In real life they seem to be a difficult car to drive. I never seen a race with so many spinout 360's as I do in this series.
