Ever since I installed patch 1.1, when I try to launch the game I get an error message saying GTR2 has encountered a problem and needs to shutdown. When I first installed the patch I launched the game and joined a server to make sure everything worked OK, it did. Then I restarted my PC and started getting this error. I did a full uninstall/reinstall and again, everything worked fine, including after a couple of pc restarts for testing. I tried to launch the game today and am getting the same errors. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My system:

Very strange indeed. I doubt this is the cause, but are you sure you downloaded and installed the correct geograpchical patch? There are different verison of the patch based on your retail area. Maybe you have a corrupt download? Although that is too doubtful as you have been able to start and run the game a few times. |

Yea, you may just want to go ahead and do a re-install of GTR2 |

yeah - that doesn't seem to be a widespread problem so maybe the download was corrupted or it was the incorrect version... This is not the best solution, but backup your replays, username stuff and logged data and reinstall, then download the patch from somewhere else and apply it. Something must have just gone screwey... Maybe you could just download the patch again and reinstall it? Just ideas... mog |

Thanks everyone. I got the patch from the gtr official site. Now I did ANOTHER reinstall and this time I can't get the game to launch at all after installing the patch. It is a windows error message if that helps. I will look to see if I can find the patch elsewhere. I think my head is going to explode! |

Do you run virtual drives (i.e. daemon tools or similar)? I remember reading a bunch of stuff on RSC with regard to virtual drives causing ALL sorts of problems for alot of people. If you are using the North American box version of the game then I will assume you are using THIS verison of the patch. |

Shit! That sucks. First and foremost your machine can handle it. Make sure nothing is running in the backgroud (well, except essential tasks). Have you disabled any services in services.msc? Are there any updated to Win you may not have added (not that I can think of anything that would have been included in recent updates which would cause GTR not to function). Also, get 2 tools if you don't already have them.
Clean the registry with a good regcleaner like regcleaner and if necessary do some dismaintenance with AusLogics defrag or Diskeeper (if you can find a copy). If you'd like you can send me a copy of the everest log or the hijack log - or if you prefer, send a pm to Eden7c over at the RSC GTR forums and he can troubleshoot that stuff for you. mog |

Steve...BRILLIANT!!! I removed the virtual drives and all is good. Thanks a bunch my friend, now I don't have to kill anyone :) Thanks for the help too, Tracy, and for the offer to check my logs. |

Glad I could help (please note that I was lucky this time, most of the time, I am a worthless POS that causes problems, not help solve them LOL!) It was just that I was eating a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich (orange marmalade) and the extra brain power that peanuts provide helped at just the right moment. 5 minutes earlier or 5 minutes later and I would have gone back to my "deer in the headlights" look. :-) |
