Because I was asked by Justin Rebello, here are the true statistics behind which cars in NAGT are more dominate then others. Surveyed the 40 NAGT races we have ran since August 30th.
WINS
The Volvo's dominated the first 3 days after the release of NAGT, scoring more then half of it's race wins in those first few days. The Volvo has since been a back marker car, lucky to even score podiums in a well populated race. Honestly though, this really only shows the popularity of cars more then dominance. More people choose to drive the Vette and Volvo's so those cars have a better chance to win over the not-so-driven Mustangs and Aston Martins. This should end any of the "Volvo's will dominate" discussions from here on out. Obviously the Volvo's are great for single hot laps, but over the course of even a 30 minute race they have some major disadvantages. The Porsche has some nice stats, even with the lowest HP of all the NAGT cars and probably the lowest top-end speeds too. Surprisingly, the Mustang has not scored a win or pole. It really is not that different then the Vette or Viper so why is everyone afraid of this car? The lack of Aston Martins is another surprise... just too sexy of a car to ignore guys. Corvette leading the charts is no surprise, especially with the cool R2P paint scheme only making an appearance on the Vette. :-) |

The numbers are even more diverse than I had expected. You are right that popularity, and not performance, is the big determining factor here. It would put the numbers into better perspective if, for each car, we could see a number based on the total number of wins divided by the total number of entries for said model. Then the GTO with 3 wins would actually look fairly competitive, for example. |

I gave the Aston a fair trial, and to be honest, felt i could have achieved more better results, but the grids didn't allow it. I am the owner of 1 podium with the Aston at monza though (2nd), sam pulled of a win in the Aston that same night, same track (USA race apposed to my Euro), so you could say, perhaps this track better suited the aston.... or it was just the drivers in the car.. I had a brutally sweet race against a vette.. After completing a few trial runs with the aston, i wanted to try the other cars. I went out one night at limerock, and ended up putting a lap down for each car seperated by only a 1 second between them all..... The Viper and caddy i think were the faster of the second, and the DB9 and mustang where on the slower side of the second. Thus, as seen in my blogs, my preferred car changed from the DBRS9 to the C6, further strengthened by a test run at hochenheim 79.... while i tried to like the mustang, it was just a few tenths slower and i was not able to handle it aswell as the c6.. Each car i have found to require a different approach to driving, as is confirmed by Tristans post about all the cars and his testing... its just interesting... |

After doing some reasonably extensive testing, I came to the conclusion that the Aston simply isn't fast, and that in a pue hotlap competition, the Corvette is far and away the best car to have (and its good over long runs too), and there actually is quite bit gap. Heinz mentions that he got all the cars within a second at limerock. Fair enough, but thats limerock, a track half the length of a fairly short GP circuit, so that puts all the cars within a 2 second gap, which makes the Corvette a McLaren and the Aston a Force India. And there's no way a Force India is going to win if anyone half decent is driving the McLaren. But thats just me, perhaps I suit the Corvette better and perhaps my track choice wasn't paticulaly rounded (Bullrun and Spa). |

The Aston, Viper, and Mustang suffer from odd gear ratios or final drive settings which limit their potential. The Aston has the best power to weight ratio out of all the cars but because its 6th gear dives so deep into the revs, it can't use that advantage down the straights. I actually think it has some of the best handling in the whole mod but it just sucks on speed. The Viper has some issues getting out of the corners with its gear settings. Its 2nd gear is a little too high and its 3rd gear is a little too low which makes it a little awkward to drive. Handling wise, it's okay. Not terribly hard but not a cakewalk either. The mustang...well, I think it has decent handling, but its gear settings are way out of wack. I don't think the Corvette should be the most dominate car out there. It definitely is the most well rounded, but because this mod is still relatively new, we haven't really figured out everything. In fact, I think the Corvette has some of the worst handling in the mod. It's the car I feel on ice the most, but because of that, it also makes it a blast to drive and easily my favorite :). The Volvo is the "sprint car". Stinking fast for 30 min races...not so much on even 60 minutes events. However, since hotlaping and winning practice are important goals for many guys around here, I suspect this car will still be popular for R2P NAGT events ;). The sleepers are the Porka and the GTO. Both great handling cars with lots of potential. You won't see them win poles or sprint races, but they should be very good in enduros, no doubt. |

C6 continues to show dominance. Tim, were you able to calculate pole/win percentages based on # of entries? Do you have raw data to crunch or is it a manual process? |
