Finally, after buying my ECCI pedals about 6 months ago for $430, I have got them working :D
After getting totally fed up with them spiking and cutting out on the DFP, I gave up and ordered the HD-USB conversion. £70 cost + about £30 shipping, but I guess it was worth it in the end to get these expensive things working.
I spent nearly 4 hours this afternoon carefully taking the pedals apart and fitting the new bits, and I put it all back together full expecting something to be wrong... but it all worked straight away! No spiking or anything, feels perfect (well... I've still got to get used to them and the DFP wheel after using my brothers G25 for the last few months, but it certainly feels nice so far!).
Anyway, just wanted to share my good day (I must say I'm quite proud of myself... I'm usually crap with anything mechanical).

A most excellent choice in getting the HD-USB! All of your pedal problems will be gone forever.
