What a farce this turned out to be for some of us. At least 4 guys having major stutter problems and having to quit before race start (for me 2-4 sec screen freezes every 5-10 secs).
I fear this issue today might well have effectively killed off this series....The turn out initially was bad enough without several ppl quiting before the race even started. Only 9 or 10 started race i believe.
I know the response is going to be this track has been used for a zillion races without problems but the fact of the matter is several of us did have problems and could not race because of it. The problem appeared to be consistent with having the 'misfortune' of owning a NVidia graphics card.
Why are we racing champcars on such a short tight track anyway? Great for Meganes etc but champcars? Cant imagine F1's series racing here. I'm sure there are better tracks than this to race on.
I'm not even going to bother with the next 2 races as they are on uncharted territory (NVidia friendly???) for champcars.

I use an nVidia too, and practice for 2 hours last night and today for 1 hour...Everything was fine, some ppl were discoin' quite often and right on Qualy I Disco too, on my fastest lap...:/
I went out exited rFactor, came back in and the warm-up lap was fine...Then after the bridge the aliens took me....2 secs. later I was on the other side of the track with the engine dead... I DNF, but I really don't know if its the track, the mod, rFactor, the server or the frikin' aliens that took me because I was in a different livery and not my own... :D... Maybe when they took me thet were like..."beep, woot, riiit, reet....This human is so fast, that went from P-7 to P-3 before T-1 at Trois Riviere, but once they saw who I was, they threw me back onto the track....".... F-Ckers!!! I'll get you you damn aliens... Anyways...I DNF, though this was not a disco but a stutter.... What surprises me is that I ran the BMW at this track and had no issues but others did have some... Well....Onto the next race and hopefully this event is scrapped as it was bad for a lot... :S...

The event should be rerun at a different track later in the season. I was one of the guys with the stutter problem. I switched compy, but didn't make it back in in time.
I echo everything what Brian said, I had the exact same problem, mine was just 1 sec stutter every 4-5 secs. I've never had this before, has to track or server related.
Not happy, given the amount of practice and time I reserved for this.

No probs with stutter for me but really felt the frustration of the guys who'd practiced for the event only to find the car undriveable, i hope it dont put you off continuing.
As to the choice of track, I already made my thoughts clear to Tim earlier in the week and my thoughts were the same Bri, would you want to drive F1 round here....no!

I'm doing extensive tests today and tonight to try to find out the issues... I saw 4 cars left before race was over... Hopefully the admins can reconsider and scrapped this event or it will kill more the attendance... :)
Please, please do not take this the wrong way, but based on the amount of issues at this track today, it would be nice to replace this event with another track at the end of the schedule...
Sincerely,
OG

Seems this has been going on for the past week, no? I know others had issues last Tuesday in the PCC event.

Didnt feel anything in the PCC race last tuesday, but the fact that half the field had stutters today tells me something fishy was going on.
Perhaps this should be moved into the post race thread.

"tells me something fishy was going on."

Yeah, Champcars have no 'plaice' at Trois-Rivieres lol.

LOL, yeah, that could be it :)
Seriously, to give this series a chance to resurrect itself, I'm sure a lot of people would like to see this race either scrapped or rerun (at a different track). Obviously the guys who finished and got a top result probably wont agree, but its hardly fair when half the field didn't even get a chance.

Road America and the likes are tracks for champcars
| Posted by Tim McArthur | Post #11 |
Tracks ChampCar ran in 2007
Longbeach street course = 1.9 miles
Toronto street course = 1.75 miles
Houston street course = 1.7 miles
San Jose street course = 1.4 miles
Trois-Rivieres = 1.5 miles. I do not see how Trois-Rivieres does not fit into ChampCar style racing. Of all the road racing in recent ChampCar history, the majority are at street courses of less then 2 miles in length. Even the non-street courses are mostly short tracks (Portland, Cleveland, etc). Road America is the only one of any significant length I can think of that ChampCar has run in the near past.
As for the stuttering. That really is something that should be worked out before race day by each participant. I have had a server available for you to test on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I had not heard a single complaint until 5 minutes before scheduled qualifying. Neither myself nor the server has any control over your personal computer configuration, software, and/or hardware.
- All of my PCs use nVidia cards and everything operates normally. Others in the race were also using nVidia cards without the stuttering.
- The server has no baring on your video FPS or video stuttering. Those are 100% in your control, and 0% server related.
- This is the exact same server used last week for CCWS, and even used for two races earlier in the day. However, the server was restarted just to rule that out as the problem
- Track has been used many times in the past without these problems (though this track/car combo has not)
Race2Play operates all of our races by a strict schedule. Either the race gets underway on time or it gets postponed/canceled. We understand that it may be frustrating that races continue on without the few that are having problems, but we also understand that our members expect things to operate as scheduled. We all have lives outside of this hobby, and some have other schedules to maintain before and after their favorite events. Our races will start at the scheduled time.
The issues with the PCC07 mod are well documented as mod-related issues. These are not server related issues. It is the reason why Race2Play never adopted that mod over the PCC05 cars.
Omar, if you find anything please let me know.

Tim gave us the chance to cancel the event right before qualifying and most of those in attendance elected to go ahead and race, including some of those here calling on it to now be scrapped. Obviously I may be biased because I had a good run, but had I wrecked it all early on I don't see any grounds to call for a rerun as I was one of those who voted to run the race to begin with.
I had the occasional stutter this afternoon in practice and cured that by dialing back on the graphic details, it mostly worked.

Ok maybe it wasn't the nvidia card but in between me coming in and out of server that seemed to be the general consensus, but it is strange that only some guys had it...
I or anyone else haven't stated i/we thought it was the server in this thread. I tried this track off line and had the same problem so i knew before quali started it wasn't the server. Like you say it must have something to do with track mod combo.
As for personal settings, i haven't changed a thing in months and this is the first problem i have had and it would be an amazing coincidence if a load of us suddenly changed our settings for this particular race.
Dennis-i didnt see any vote to race but to be fair i was coming in and out of server right up to quali so may have missed it but i wouldnt have voted to race as i didnt even take the start.

Agreed Dennis, and grats on getting to the end mate, good win. I think it would be most unfair to take the results away from the 3 guys that finished and am more than certain Tim wont even entertain the thought.

Tim, the stutters started tonight. Under all the practice during the week, on- and offline, there had been no problems with stuttering at all. I just mean its wierd that once we move to the race server, half the field experience problems.
