23 Apr 2016 — Austin Ogonoski led all drivers most for 23 of 26 laps on a run for first place in the Sonoma Raceway Long GT3 in the opening round of the GT3 Sports Car series.

Driving the McLaren MP4-12C GT3, Ogonoski ran all of four laps total pursuing Reinhard Berger after catching him on the first lap. Ogonoski passed Berger and into first place when Berger retired on lap 4, and held it the final 22 laps to the conclusion.

From the ninth spot on the starting grid, Xavier Eugeni worked through the field of nine to claim fourth place at the finish.

Eugeni swapped leads with Frans Van Der Linden in a prolonged fight for fourth starting midway through, fighting over a span of 13 laps. Eugeni drove nearly equal parts leading Van Der Linden after being engaged by him on the first lap. After losing the spot on lap 15, Eugeni cleared Van Der Linden and into fourth place when Van Der Linden retired on lap 21, and held it the final few laps to the checkered flag.

Greg Metcalf captured second place.

GT3 Sports Car series moves on to Round 2 in three weeks at Slovakia Ring GP. The series has nine drivers competing for points in the championship.

Driving the McLaren MP4-12C GT3, Metcalf ran nearly equal parts of 26 laps total leading Matt Horst after challenging and passing him on lap 11. Metcalf passed Horst and into second place on lap 11, and defended it against pressure by Horst the remaining 16 laps to the conclusion.

Matt Horst captured third place.

Horst ran nearly equal parts of 26 laps total leading Greg Metcalf after being engaged by him on the first lap. Horst fended off an extended attack by Metcalf in the beginning, staying just a car length ahead of him over a solid run of 10 laps. In the end Horst lost the spot on lap 11 and settled into third the 16 laps running to the conclusion.

The Ford GT is currently the fastest car. High downforce is the way to go now, not low downforce. Rest of the setup remains the same.

Almost missed qualify due to early start, so very happy to get 3rd on starting grid.
I had some great fair racing with Matt, very close for all the race.
I watched Berger`s off track excursion, i can`t believe that stopped his car, maybe a change is needed to damage for the rest of this series.
I am annoyed with myself for finishing the race with 17ltrs in the tank. lesson learnt.

Well done to Austin for his easy cruise to first place. see you all at the next event.

I could practice with the mclaren for this race but when it came to joining this race i had to buy the car even though i already had it :/ ?
