22 Dec 2011 — Mauricio Arias captured his first career win after 56 events, leading all drivers with 13 laps at the front in the Rocket Fuel Donington Park EuroCup in the seventh and final round of the Megane EuroCup [USA] series.
Arias mixed it up with Dagoberto Pedraza in a lengthy and unrelenting fight for the race lead from the early stages, running within a car length of each other over a range of 19 laps. Arias spent the majority leading Pedraza after initially being caught by him on the first lap. After losing the spot on lap 3, Arias got around Pedraza and into first place on lap 7, and defended it against pressure by Pedraza the remaining 13 laps to the finish.
Arias finished the series 10th in the standings. Arias made two starts and led 13 of his 28 laps while taking the victory once.
The inaugural win for Arias came on his fifth outing in the Megane Eurocup.
A narrow 0.283 seconds separated Felipe Anzolin ahead of Cory Linton at the checkered flag for Anzolin to take third place.
Anzolin wrestled the advantage back and forth with Douglas Garcia in a long and tense battle for third from the early stages, running within a car length of each other over a span of 12 laps. Anzolin ran nearly equal parts leading Garcia after initially catching and passing him on the third lap. After losing the spot on lap 7, Anzolin cleared Garcia for the second time and into third place on lap 15, and held it the remaining few laps to the thrilling finish with Linton.
Anzolin finished the series second in the standings. Anzolin made five starts and led five of his 85 laps while taking the win once.
Juan Aul clinched the series championship with his run to fifth place.
Aul traded positions back and forth with Cory Linton in a lengthy and unrelenting battle for fourth starting midway through, running within a turn of each other over a stretch of 19 laps. Aul drove the majority pursuing Linton after initially engaging him on the first lap. In the end Aul settled into fifth the few laps running to the checkered flag.
The series championship was clinched this final round by Aul with his fifth-place run. In six starts, he finished as high as second.
Megane EuroCup [USA] series finished its season after seven rounds spanning several months. A total of 31 drivers competed for points in the championship.
Rich Dozier made his 20th start in the Megane Eurocup and captured eighth place.
Juan Aul captured the championship in a tight campaign over Felipe Anzolin, separated by just a handful of finishing positions in the end. Aul led zero laps in six races. Felipe Anzolin and Dagoberto Pedraza finished within a race of the title. Jan Sproule and Rich Dozier finished out the Top 5.
Dozier swapped leads with Luis Lynce in a long and tense fight for eighth starting early on, running within a car length of each other over a range of 13 laps. Dozier ran the majority pursuing Lynce after originally targeting him on the first lap. Dozier launched an extended challenge at Lynce in the late stages, staying within an apex behind him and gaining ground over a solid run of six laps. Ultimately Dozier settled into eighth through attrition the few laps running to the conclusion, missing Lynce ahead by just 0.537 seconds at the line.
Dozier finished the series fifth in the standings. Dozier made four starts and finished as high as fourth.
Dagoberto Pedraza led the pack for two laps in a run to second place.
In the 20 career runs taken by Dozier in the Megane Eurocup, he has finished as high as fourth once.
Pedraza traded positions with Mauricio Arias in a prolonged battle for the race lead starting early on, fighting over a span of 19 laps. Pedraza spent the majority pursuing Arias after initially catching him on the first lap. Ultimately Pedraza settled into second the 13 laps running to the conclusion.
Pedraza finished the series third in the standings. Pedraza made five starts and led 21 of his 74 laps while taking the win once.
Cory Linton captured fourth place.
Making his 10th start in the Megane Eurocup, Lucky Chopp drove to a sixth-place finish.
Linton spent the majority of nine laps total pursuing Douglas Garcia after originally engaging him on the second lap. Linton got around Garcia and into fourth place on lap 16, and held it the remaining few laps to the checkered flag.
Linton finished the series seventh in the standings. Linton made three starts and finished as high as fourth.
Chopp ran all of 11 laps total pursuing Juan Aul after initially catching him on the first lap, coming from as many as five spots back. Ultimately Chopp settled into sixth the few laps running to the finish.
Chopp finished the series sixth in the standings. Chopp made three starts and finished as high as third.
In the 10 career runs taken by Chopp in the Megane Eurocup, he has finished as high as third once.
