USA FT: Mills

Congrats to 1st place - Wyatt! Good Job.

I qualy'ed 17th, not as good as I'd hoped after practicing for several evenings, oh well. The first couple laps saw several people go off, which allowed my to pick up quite a few places as I snaked between the cars. I was in 10th by lap 6 and holding on for quite a few laps. Everything was looking good with a 1 1/5 second gap over the next car behind. Then I went off. I think I must have taken a bit too much curbing on a right-hander in the S's before the last turn. The back-end came a bit loose, I corrected by turning the wheel so I would stay in line, but the car didn't turn, it just went straight into the wall! I went around another lap with some damage, pitted, went back out in 14th. From here on it was down-hill in a hurry. I quit with a couple laps remaining, it just wasn't driving well at all. Oh well, maybe next time. All in all, being my first experience racing these cars I did okay, until the off.

Congratulations Wyatt. I'm glad you won in spite of my getting into you at the end of the back straight on lap 13. Rich and I had been scrapping it out for a couple of laps, and I had a bit of a run on him down the straight. I knew he always broke earlier than me in that corner, and I planned to out brake him for the pass...but instead I locked the front wheels up and slid right into you. It sucked, and I apologize for the incident.

I think I would have raced a lot better if I weren't trying so hard to make up some of the positions I lost, when I had to pull off the track and use the keyboard to question why I was being told to serve 2 drive thru penalties that I knew I didn't earn. Turns out it was Chris Melton that earned the penalties, but Tim was whispering me instead.

Rich, we had a couple of hot moments there. In retrospect, I think I may have been a little too aggressive a couple of times (for the above reason), especially after I lost my front wing when I hit Wyatt. My car just couldnlt slow down and turn in as well after that point, and I probably shouldn't have continued try to out brake you after that point. I don’t know how you felt about those couple of corners where I cut in under you, but I think I might have been walking the fine line between acceptable passing and reckless driving. If it was too much, I appologize. Of course it didn't work out for me anyway when I went a little too wide into the grass thanks to that missing front wing, and you got your position right back ;)

I wasn't unhappy with my qualifying postion but gave it up on the first lap with a self spin. It was a great turn out and there were lots of good battles going on through out the feild. I hope to make a few more of these as time allows. Who has more fun than we do!

Good Race congrats podium!

Pleased with Q time, and pleased with the race. Drove my own race, was good enough to get past DW after losing my spot at the start.Then I pulled away in 3rd but gradually slowed down and I couldn't hold off DW on lap 19 or so. Then I slam DW foolishly but luckily he corrected and was able to cruise to a podium. Good battle DW, rock solid driving by you.

It is Really dissapointing to spend 6 or 7 hours preparing for a race then get PUNTED in the first lap. Car total wreck.

Congrats to Brian for a solid 8th place finish. That helps ease the pain.

Clay, I was the one who ended up punting you, but in my defense, I had help.

As we headed into the turn onto the back straight, I was leaving a gap, since I was expecting some bunching up. I got hit hard from behind and then I rammed into you. Fortunately for me, I got pushed to the inside of the corner and I was able to resume (sans some hardware) on the inside of the back straight.

As I was completing the first lap I thought the car felt strange. At first, I attributed it to cold tires, but as I returned to "the scene of the crime" I noticed a front wing sitting in the middle of the track.

"Uh-oh..."

I check the car status, and sure enough... front wing was "red".

The rest of the race I fought the understeer and I picked up a spot or two from other people's offs.

I thought about going into the pits to fix it, but I figured I'd lose too much track position in the process.

Congrats to the Podium... which includes my teammate!

And seeing folks able to run 53s... Is beginning to make me believe in aliens. :-)
