USA FT: Toban

I had a top 5 car but was a top 10 driver.
Looping at the hairpin was so nice, I did it twice!

Good Race. Congrats T3.
My best 9th place ever! Practiced slow, qualified slow but I raced quick and consistent enough to get me a top10.

Good job GMulgrew gaining 15 spots!

I put quite a few hours into my setup...qualified 8th...then completely @#%$ed myself out of a tire on the 1st lap, all by myself without anyone's assistance. Needless to say I was not happy with myself. Hopefully the nagging feeling that I wasted a lot of time for nothing will pass soon, and I can starting thinking about the next race.

So I was running a nice gap in second when I managed to clip the wall on the inside of the first left in the esses, and went spinning across the infield. Luckily I managed to catch it after the third or fourth time round and continued on in about 7th.

Managed to get back up to 3rd by the end of the race. Nearly caught Steve, but I'm reasonably happy with 3rd.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly... not necessarily in that order:

Qualy:

The Bad. I could hit the mid 1:05s in practice, but I could only manage a 1:06.5 in qualifying, which gave me 18th.

Start:

The Good. I got a great start and gained about six places.

Race:

The Ugly. The race was unfolding pretty much as I expected, me in mid-pack and slowly climbing due to attrition. However, Bryan Noelte was catching up and got past. Then on what turned out to be my last lap I looped it coming off the corner before the final chicane. Three cars went by, one of them the leader, so I finished off the lead lap. :-(

Fairly uneventful outing, but glad to get a podium since a win was out of the question; Tristan was in his own class.

Used my Brands setup and kept catching traffic in Q, but still managed 4th on the grid. Got a good launch in the race picking up 3rd. Tried to sneak under Tom for 2nd into T1, but he covered it quickly. Tried to settle in and let the tires get hot for a lap or so, but then Tom had his wall encounter just ahead and that put me up to 2nd.

Knew trying to run Tristan down was a waste of effort so I kind of got into cruise mode since there was a gap behind, but then I saw Tom coming mid race and I started pushing. Too hard, as I was overdriving it and going slower! Backed off some and my laptimes dropped back down into the low-mid 4's which I figured was enough to get it done. Got the one to go and backed out to avoid some upcoming lapped traffic, bringing it home in 2nd.

Was fun revisiting this circuit as it brought back memories of first running the demo in bumper view, since my old PC couldn't handle cockpit view without becoming a slideshow. These days it's 1920X1200 with everything maxed out at 150+FPS. Bit better... ;-)

In practice I was solid in the low 1:04's , and knew I had a top 3 shot, but totally forgot that you have to qualify well if you want to get there.
I accidentally hit my shifter going through the tricky tight downhill left and spun myself getting suspension damage, so qualified last!!:(

I must say I did have a great time working up through the very cognizant field of drivers, passing was tough but was very cautious to make it up to 6th with no accidents!!! Great racing with everyone especially some real good laps with Ryan and Scott, really enjoyed this one.
