UKFormula Euro FB: Mosport

Didnt practice at all (I thought the race was at Mills!) so I had to work quite hard in the 10 mins of official practice I got, but got somewhere near the pace. I did my best in qually, but there was still 0.3 left in it, but at least I didnt have to escape after I rolled it on the out lap!!! :P

The race started well, I jumped Craig and Pete off the line, and was 3rd into T1. I harried Janko for a few laps before he made a mistake in T3 and I got through. Wyatt was away and gone by now and Pete was a few seconds back, so I just set about defending from Janko for the rest of the race. He made a few good attempts, but this track is difficult for passing so I was always able to be in the right place at the right time. He almost got me with 2 corners to go, but I guess there just wasnt quite enough grip on the outside and he slid onto the grass, sealing my second 2nd place in 2 days :-)

That was quite a race for me... :) Wyatt was pritty lonely at the front, as i figured he will be :)), but i had a nice fight with Scott all the way through the race! I just couldnt pass him, a silly track to pass,... for kamikazee only! :P

Well, we had a nice battle wheel to wheel all the time and it was realy great to have such nice action, last lap i went "a bit" wide in the long and fast lefthander, but just managed to save it and got 3rd place...

I just wish this race would not stop at all, i had so much fun racing Scott! Thnx for a great race!

Grats Wyatt, i thought you would have more ping or atleast some ping spikes, considering you r connecting from freakin Mars... :PP

That was shocking. A crash in qual meant I ended up 17th, and didn't improve much in the race. My rank's probably taken a huge hit...

Hehe, it was a pleasure Janko, I hope we can have many more battles like this through the season... Its really refreshing to battle someone who is hard but clean :D

Fun but stressful race for me - you don't want to know what I was pinching for the whole race (hint, old people get it alot!). LoL

Had some fun laps with Rob pushing me very hard and even a little contact to liven up the race - great stuff Rob!

Joachim, glad you were able to recover from the little tap on the fast right hander as you passed on the outside - more exciting racing - well done.

Would have liked to go more laps but for the above mentioned "problem" - maybe a shot of Craig's favorite beverage would settle the plumbing before a race. LoL

Well, I am hoping to raise my open wheel rank above 3 so I can run with the F1 boys in S7, but I'll have to do better than this!

Just wanted to mention a very intense moment during the race with Rob right on my tail when we came across a very wounded Craig H. right in the middle of the track just before T2!!!

We both top and bottomed Craig and just made it through, I think Rob might have grazed the wall - that was close and very exciting!!! 80

That was alot of fun, and exciting!

The Qual for me was a bit of a disaster. I didnt manage to Qualify because of lots of silly mistakes, that meant I had to start pretty much in the middle of the field :)

I was looking forward to an pretty good race, as the times I could run was fairly similar to the little group of cars starting right infront of me. I took it easy thorugh the first couple of corners and then somehow managed to find an opening in the outside barrier, ooooof turn 4 I guess, where I parked the car for a second :P

Now last, I started making up some positions and had a pretty exciting pass on Dan Ortega at the fast right hander a couple corners from the start/finish, which nearly ended with disaster for both of us.(sorry if I didnt give enough room on the inside :o )

Anyway, had lots of fun :D Gratz to Wyatt.

An alarm clock stuff-up here again! Setting it for 4pm instead of 4am. And my 'in-built alarm' woke me at 4-50am, just enough time to NOT make qualifying in time. So had to start last in 22nd.
I got to see the Qual times and could work out some idea of how far I could move ahead based on those - versus only 13 laps to do so. I would have qualled 5th to 7th, and with attrition should be able to get back up to about there in time.

With only about three good and safe passing points on the track that hindered headway just a bit, but I made it to 11th within about 5 laps. Had a good battle with David McRoberts for a bit, but I edged away from him until I caught Roberto and Fred, who were still in the area of a bit slower than me. But they were fighting each other and it made it a 'busy' track at times, which slowed me and allowed David to catch again.

With one of the best turn 3 cars in the field, that was my No.1. passing point in most cases. On the first run at Roberto on Lap 6 he ran out wide on the more typical racing line so I headed tight right with a good speed advantage around and out of the turn, but he then moved over to block that side totally and I had to slow and lose momentum.

My next chance is the Loop exit for a good run up the straight, but I messed that up. Followed by the last three turns run, which did give me another run to pass him, but just not quite enough to be of use. So it was going to be turn 3 again...
Again I got a good run and would have made it past when Roberto ran out wide left, but then again he swung back to totally block the right and this time hit my front wheel/wing seeing I was already overlapping a bit. So that ruined that run, which would have made it passed both him and Fred this time. In Replay I can see that time he had been battling Fred and moved right to try to pass him, but didn't really have to go all the way right on such a wide track.

I messed up the Loop AGAIN, and could only use the straight and last turns to get right back on his rear wing, for yet another turn 3 attempt.
This time I waited till I was really close to his wing and went left instead of right, seeing he was running mid-track to a bit right this time. That was a BAD idea....as I couldn't tell the exact aligment of the left edge and Roberto was then running out more and more left to block that side, and once you head left you won't be switching to a right side path(!) so I had to run a bit onto the grass and then lost it and spun into the wall.
I should have persisted on the much SAFER right side runs! DOH

The car felt pretty good, but I found out it was NOT when I ran into the fast right at the end of the long straight and it began to turn and track fine, but then the rear snapped free and I spun off into another wall and broke the rear wing.
That cost a 186sec - 3lap with in-out laps - pit stop and that was that...back to 20th.

First F-BMW race and started 4th behind team mate Craig. Start was OK, but Janko was a little slow away and I had to ease the throttle, giving Scott a run on me. Craig's start was ummm....less than good, so I stayed 4th. For the rest of the race Scott & Janko were a few seconds ahead and battling hard, Tommy & Fernando were a few seconds behind and battling hard, while I just filled the void in between!
Grats to Wyatt for the win. Gotta love this track, too, what a roller-coaster ride. Big balls required :)
