Watkins Glen 110

What awful cars to drive around a road course. I had forgotten how primitive NR2003 is so it was a pretty simple drive for me with no real risk of going off. I straight-lined the inner-loop once because I was reading all the distracting chat messages... I don't know how you guys deal with that.

I blew the RF in T10 as I was getting ready to pit so that cost me a few seconds. Because of that I really backed it off in my 2nd stint, but had to push again in my final stint as I was racing hard for 4th with Bill.

I am extremely abusive on tires to begin with, and a 2X wear ratio is more like a 4X for me. Im use to driving a Porsche in GTR and that driving style works great for fast laps, but chews up the tires with all the sliding I do.

With 2 laps to go my RF went red again and I was afraid I wasn't even going to complete that lap, let alone another one afterwards. So I pulled over and let Bill go and cruised it home to a solid top-5

It seemed I was braking much later then the guys I was running near. Daniel just moved over and let me take 2nd early on... probably out of fear I would punt him. I had it under control Daniel :-)

Fun stuff, but I think I will re-retire from NR2003 racing after tonight's race.

Time for new pots in my ECCI though, my brakes were spiking badly. I would let out a puff of tire smoke every time I used the brakes because the pot would go to 100% and then settle back down. Sure made it easy to find my brake mark each lap though :-)

Our team arrived late for the race as we made an unscheduled stop to pick up parts for the race car in Charlotte. Truth be told our real reason was to get some decent BarB-Q. We made the Billy-Bobs [All the guys on the team are named Billy-Bob; what do ya suppose the chances of that are?] convert our oval Darlington car to a road car in the hauler while we drove to New York State. When we arrived and unlocked the door to the haller the job was complete and all we had to do was wash the BarB-Q sauce off the car to get it through inspection. Car Chief Billy-Bob hit the set up real close and the car felt real good everywhere cept' 1, 2&3, the chicane, 7 was tight too, but OK in 8 if you held the wheel to the left and counted to 10 before you picked up the throttle. Other than that it was all good. The first pit cycle we were slow and just settling in to get a feel for things. I think we were running around 8th or so. At the first pit we came out behind Kevin and ran that whole cycle behind him. We were a little better that he was in the chicane, but he killed us in 2&3. We were most happy because we didn't make any mistakes on the track. We weren't so lucky on the third and final pit cycle as Billy-Bob [Yep...I'm also one] started running out of talent. Several 4 offs to chase sand weasels and we lost sight of Kevin who had plenty of talent to spare. Tim caught us and passed us up but the Goodyear's on his car gave up the ghost with one lap to go and we were able to finish 4th proving its sometimes better to be lucky thank good. All in all a great race and lots of fun.

Pretty good night out there for me. I ran alot of practice laps this week to prepare. I had a lot of trouble saving the gears and during the racing I had to keep reminding myself to shift smooth. Lap 1 turn 1 I think there was a car infront of me but that was the only time I seen him. Great run Greg, very fast. I was hoping you couldn't keep the tires under it for 15 laps and would have to make an extra pit but no luck there. Tim was all over me during the first run and could get in the corner much faster than me. He almost got me going into the chicane and really upset his car. I wasn't worried you'd punt me, but did think I was driving it too hard to make 15 laps, so I let you go on by. Very fun racing you. Yes folks, I did lead a lap!! Believe it or not. After the first stop I settled into 2nd position and thats where we finished. Good time, thanks for the racing guys. Off to Vegas

Can't believe I drove this sim years ago. I remember doing 13s on the Glen and 12s on qual, I was not able to keep the car on the track at all.

Me too don't think I will go back to NR2003 for a loooong time.

I don't know about you guys, but this was a stressful one for me. At the end of the first run, it was obvious I had pushed it too hard. My front tires were completely gone, and I had to pit a lap sooner than I wanted. I knew this was going to make it tight on fuel. I backed it down a touch for the second run, and was able to run 16 laps, which was a good thing. On the final lap of the race, I was out of fuel....basically coasted the last two turns. Nice win Greg....I have to get that setup! Thanks to everyone for a great race, and I'll see you all in Vegas.

One of the cleanest races ive seen at the glen in a long while.. well done to all. it speaks volumes for this group.

well im not to kind to tires myself Tim i know how ya feel :)
had a problem with rf tire wear and it blew on lap 15.. exactly half a lap from the pits of course ;) limped it back and just worked on keeping the wear down for the rest of the race.
everyone was very kind in regard to letting me get by.. i didnt want to put up a bunch of chat so i wasnt thanking them.. but now i can.. thanks :)

Wow. I don't know how you guys did it on two pit stops.

I got in two test runs before the event. The first time my RF blew on Lap 12. The second time my RF blew on Lap 13. No way was I going to make it 15 laps per stint for the two-stopper ... I planned a three-stopper, but was amazed to see people just keep goin' and goin', and at those speeds, too!

At my pace and style I wasn't overly abusive to tires, either. Huh.

Congrats to all the runners.

I was bring up the rear when a deer jumped up onto the track right in front of me. Did anyone see that? I turned so hard to miss it that I broke my steering wheel right off. The good new's is I saved the deer's life but the bad new's is I ended my night. Everyone was really fast and that was no surprise. I was starting to settle in and just run my pace when I saw dinner on the track. I think I hit the wall head on going about 160mpr. ouch, Good thing I jumped out into the kitty litter just before I hit. Good job Greg and to all the top 5, awesome job. I'll see you guy's next week. Man I just keep having bad luck lately.
