Indianapolis 400

i cant belive it, after getting on the front row with george sandman and sumhow making a decent setup i thought i had a really good chance at a podium and possibly a win. but for some stupid reason rF wouldnt let me get on the grid. and when i tried to exit the pits after the start but i got disqualified straight away :'(

i was really looking forward to this race :(

Edit by TM - I dont know how many times I have to say this, "Do not exit the pits when a red-light is showing." There is a reason why we have this policy in place.

Geez, I just can't finish one of these races. I tried so hard to be conservetive and not race with anyone in the begining. I finish almost every race in GTR2, but not in rFactor.

I was running around 7th with about 10 to go before the first stop, when the car would just not pull the revs any more. I could not stay in the draft.???? Didn't seem to be overheating. Then with 2 to go before the first stop, something broke, put me right in the wall. Blown tire? made it back to the pits, but it couldn't be repaired.

I really like racing at this track. It would be great if a low downforce mod for these cars could be made so that the draft was not such a factor.

Wow, this was really cool. Thought I screwed it with my 2nd pitstop. I went into the pits alone and didn't have any drafting partners for about 15 laps or so. I was just a sitting duck driving around doing low 41's

After everyone's pitstops had been done I was back in 2nd again, a lap down to Conor. Only at lap 110 I got a bit of hope again when some guys in front of me went to the pits, knowing that they would have to come in another time and I only had to do one more stop.

At lap 133 I made my final stop and luckily found a drafting partner. My heartrate must have been 200 bpm on the final lap and doubled when Craig got a run on me on the final turn.

Not what I planned at all. I started at the back to avoid the carnage. I knew I had a good non-draft setup for when the field spread out. Second lap, I had a big screen freeze and slapped the wall, causing damage. That didn't seem to slow me much. I made it up to seventh by the second pitstop. When I entered the pits I gunned it a little and slammed into the wall, causing major damage. Stupid! My wheel was knocked a half-turn out of position. Still, I soldiered on, hoping attrition would help me out. Shortly after the next-to-last stop, I had a big screen freeze entering turn four. When it unfroze, a whole pack of cars was driving through me and I slammed the wall hard, bouncing into pit lane. The damage was too severe, repairs didn't work, and I had my first DNF in a long time.

In 2+ years with rFactor, I've had one screen freeze. In this race, I had several. No idea, my memory bar was green, framerates were good, and it didn't happen when there were cars around. Something about this mod?

I hope I didn't ruin anyone's race. As I said, it didn't happen around other cars or I would have quit. When I had the race-ending freeze, those cars that drove through me were like eighteen seconds behind me when it froze.

had a bad race couldnt stay behind packs of cars, made a hash of 1st 2 pit stop entries, spinning both times and losing loads of time plus the 40 or so pit stops to repair damage. Steering was pulling to the left after that for rest of race. On my 4th stop, slowed down ok, driving on limiter down pit lane i went to press enter to confirm my fuel for stop and must have pressed 'del' and ended up with an external view and before i knew what was happening i rammed jeffs car somewhere in the pit lane. I hope

This is something you can only learn by doing races I found out today. It was my first ovalrace in an openwheel and did many many laps to prepare a good setup. But you cant really prepare for 22 cars all around you. By the time I found out it was best to find a small group and stick together without doing any real crazy stuff I already had too much damage to continue. Im not sure if the speeddifference when drafting is the same as in real ovalracing but it sure is a special way of driving. My compliments to all who made it to the finish.

I didn't realize drafting would have such a huge effect on tire wear. My setup was all wrong for it. The right rear was wearing down twice as fast as the other tires. It was probably just a tire pressure problem, but apparently this mod won't let you change pressures in the pits. I had to pit early a few times, and had some major spins in down the pit lane. Had to get my front wing replaced twice.

Towards the end I was intentionally staying out of the draft, which probably saved me a pit stop. Would have been better off staying out of the draft for the whole race.

The drafting in this mod seems to be pretty accurate in this mod.

The only difference (could be because these cars have a different aero package than the Indy cars) is that they are able to pick up the draft from a car in front half a straight away whereas it's more like 100 meters here.
