Fun-run: GT Legends

Really enjoyed that one, despite the DNF. I hadn't fired up GTL in a long time and had forgotten how much I used to like it. Nice to get back to the old cars for a change; they even make this funky track fun!

Not sure how I mucked up the fuel fill; had it set right in practice, but I guess I didn't save it when the server got restarted for the distance change. Didn't even think about it until David was close behind and the motor started stuttering.

Fun while it lasted - hope to do more GTL stuff. I'm thinking Cobras; those things will teach you to respect the right pedal... ;-)

I spotted this about an hour before qual time and thought i might try it.I have had the game since it came out but it never really interested me.So,find the dvd,install,config,etc.Then test,then discover i don't have all the tracks and cars.Do a search and eventually fix that problem,try to join,error,look for update in all the wrong places,remember race2play will have the update.I get that installed,then have to remember my username and password,get into the server,no ffb.I try everything until i remember to select wheel in the right side of the ffb panel.Even tho i had no setup,no idea what the hell i was doing and no mirrors,i had a ball racing with Gary and Fernando who i punted when he got sideways once.I look forward to some more racing with these.

This was only my 2nd race, and I had a great time. Thanks, guys. Now I need to work on my times!

Diddos guys. I had a ball too. These cars seem real "honest" meaning this is how a car on 5inch bias ply tires most likley handles. They just kinda skip and slide, or push and go loose. Makes them fun to drive. First or second lap someones car went in the air and started doing endos in the little cork screw. I thought "wow thats some major air for a flat track with no jumps." As I was checkin' up for the flying Alpine the accordion lost it's slack and I caught someones front bumper with my rear bumper and I went out into the dingle berries. The car wasn't hurt and I had someone to race with all night. I think I might be back to race these some more.

To all the first-timers, or 'reacquaint-ers', of GTL welome/welcome back!

I haven't been at R2P for very long so I'm no veteran, but it sure would be great to see interest/participation grow in this, the greatest of all sims.

I'll likely be branching out into other series' soon, just to get involved in some of the larger fields etc. but I'll not abandon GTL. I love racing these cars - so much more personality than modern machines. Gotta treat them like a partner rather than a tool - they just won't respond unless you drive them like they want to be driven. I'll race anything and enjoy the racing, but I get so much more satisfaction from driving these cars.

To those that shy away from the rental points system (in the GT Historic series), I say give it a chance. It adds an interesting level of strategy absent in other series. It also forces you to race cars other than your 'favorites', or the car that is perceived as the fastest at that track. I tell you, it's a ton of fun chasing folk down while driving an 'inferior' car - ask Ali Topley about any of his races in the 65 'vette.

Anyway, great race, and I hope to see you all on the 15th for the first race of the GT Historic. :)

I'll second what everyone else said about that being a great race in a fun car. GTL is a fun sim with some enjoyable cars…I just wish it had a larger following here. It would be nice if there was enough interest for a spec series with some of these cars - that might be an alternative for some who don't like the rental system, although I agree that that does create an interesting bit of strategy across the season.

As for my race, I started out at the back of the top 5 for the first lap and a half, and then attached myself to Tommy's rear bumper for most of the second lap and tried (in vain) to keep up. As we were coming up to the chicane on lap 2, I locked up the brakes and realized that I was going to punt Tommy, as a result. I tried to just spin the car down to the inside of the track to avoid hitting Tommy after my lock-up, but rather than spinning, the car continued straight on the grass, and accelerated straight at the chicane. Somewhere in there, I hit a nasty ramp that launched my car straight up in the air and planted it nose-first right in the middle of the chicane. Miraculously, everyone managed to avoid me (I think), and my car came back down right side up, with no apparent damage. Sorry to everyone affected by that…I was just trying to avoid punting Tommy after I got a bit too hard on the brakes, and ended up discovering 'Flugplatz 2'.

After that, I had a great race with Barry for the remainder of the race, first following him, and then trying to build up a lead after getting by. He continued to pressure me until the end, though, just waiting for a mistake that I fortunately didn't make.

Great race - hopefully we can have some more of these.

I'm with Gary on the Spec series idea. I'd like to see it focus on some of the cars that are under-utilized in the GTH series (Mercedes, Renault, Ferrari, Shelby Daytona, Escort, etc)

Well, I missed the part about no practice and was down over a minute when I headed out of the pits. I figured it's just like one of those G3 races but it comes a couple of laps earlier.

Kept plugging away and cutting into time of the next car. He went off the road and Steve ran out of gas so I ended up where I qualified. Not Senna at Suzuka but one of my better drives here.
