NASRL Pre-season

Well tonight didn't go to hot for me. I was doing alright for the first few laps and was catching up to John who had pulled away at the start. Then I kinda ditched it trying to avoid John (I think) going into the 90 deg. corner before the start/finish and went off track. The game gave me a Stop/Go penalty for "cutting the track". Pretty sure sliding sideways through the grass wasn't a shortcut. Anyway, I figured I would serve the bogus penalty right then since I was there anyway. I have never done one so I just hit enter when the clipboard came up. Nothing happened. I sat there for a few seconds then hit ESC before really thinking about it. An immediate DNF. Oh well, next time will be better (I hope).

I think this mod is fantastic! There are some bugs to kill but I find driving these cars great fun!

The TR-4 is pretty underpowered compared to most cars in the field today. It runs great with open track but lacks the power to slice and dice. If I try to out-break someone I may get the pass, but the break in the flow makes it difficult to retain the gained position. In hind-sight, probably not the best car on this track, but I find it a great little runner for 6 points!

Thx to the NASRL guys for spending the time and effort to put on these races here, this mod is brilliant. Reason again for me to put the GTR2 disc in the DVD drive.

The noise from the Falcon's engine is pure bliss, especially when I'm passing the little Alfas on the long straight like they're standing still. :)

I had nothing for Rick, he had his Falcon dialed in, I noticed watching the replay how much more aggressively he was inducing the power over steer to get through the turns, gonna have to play with the setup a bit.

Great fun! Looking forward to flogging my ol' favorite the Cortina in the future.

P.S. I noticed a couple guys didn't have R2P friendly names for the player profile ... might want to fix that. Probably why it took so long to get the results posted.

Rather proud of the fact that I got a 1.13.0 with the Alfa Junior and managed to do decently. The little car had nothing for the others, people were just blowing by me on the straights. I noticed in the results it does not differentiate between the Junior and the more gifted older sisters-- that's just plain wrong! The car seemed worth more like 3 points, but of course I would say that :)
I gotta check the schedule, definitely this mod is very track dependent-- Magny Cours National was a dead bore in 80% of the track, but I must say that the fast chicane and right hand turn were a blast to do and to watch!
Agreed on the names, issue. I hate to sound trivial, but I have a point of not racing anywhere where real names are not used.

Lesson one for me was- once you've committed to braking, it's too late to change direction :) I was chasing Jared down the straight when a Falcon blew by us on the right- I went to move in behind it because I thought I had a run on Jared, when I just caught a glimpse in the mirror of a 2nd Falcon charging right behind the first. Flung the wheel left to get out of the way and go for the outside, which leaned the car on its right haunch just as we approached the brake markers. No choice but to get on the brakes, and the car wanted to go left badly, taking me into the sand.

Speaking of sand, we'll be using the terrain patch next week, as one or two people got stuck out there. I felt bad for Bill, who went wide and got beached trying to give me room in T1, when in fact I had backed off to let him tuck in.

Had other good battles with Mike and Ray, and Francesco who was flogging that Jr around quite well despite the hp deficit. No touching Bryce, though, who was apparently born to drive these things :)

The name issue will be fixed for next time, Bill was a last minute entry and doesn't know all that stuff yet.

Sorry I couldn't get back into the server to join you all. Looks like it was a blast guys. I had enormous fun practicing the Elite. Glad to see my 114s would have been able to keep up with some of the pack. Looks like a lot of close racing.

Ah well, that's what the preseason is about. Working out the bugs for the real deal later.

Looking forward to the next one. :)

I had a ball guys. I thought the Falcons would give me a challenge (Jerry, Rick...) I ran consistent 1:09's and 1:10's all race. There was no tire wear or brake fade in the Alfa. Maybe we should go 2x tire wear... I ran away from the pack and hid.

Well a first lap tire off the track sent me into the right cement wall and back on to the track in last. Fortunately the damage model didn't result in a DNF. I was able to get back into the mix a little and had some good scrapes with the two Mikes although my erratic driving probably caused them more problems than they deserved. At one point I got squirrely enough that I just let Mike A get by rather than possibly take him out with my troubles keeping the Alfa on the racing line. It is fun getting back into the racing mix and I clearly need more seat time to get accustomed to these cars etc. I do enjoy these cars.

Bryce, the Alfas are just that easy on tyres. If we go to 2x, the 'stang and falcon wouldn't last 5 laps. I was on green spot tyres (hards) and the front left was gone (40 on the wear meter) by the end of the race. Crew chief kept yelling at me about how my tyres were worn. :)

It's still early, but if it needs adjusting, we can always just make the Alfa "Volumetrico" model more expensive.
