RACE - Radicals

Maybe its just me, I have a serious cold and I am on prescribed medicines, so perhaps I am just off.

Race1: I punted a guy, cause I could not figure out his rhythm. So I did the only thing I could to try and make it up to him, I pulled over and waited for him to get back in front. I thought that was common courtesy on R2P.

Race2: I got punted on lap one, and the person who did it never seemed to think twice about it. After I gathered myself back from that and other events (argh) I started racing again. I was battling out with one guy into T1, I went on the inside of him and we both ended up locking our brakes up and going a little bit wide. Then I notice someone is coming down my inside. Whoever you are you owe me a huge thank you for being there in T1 or else you would have never made the turn without me to bounce off of! Whoever it was also just kept going, like it was no big deal.

I am used to being used to brake against, punted out of the way by some shmoe cutting the inside line (even though there is no way in hell he is gonna make it), and T1 pile up, and generally speaking getting hit every time the guy behind me can get a good smack in. I am very used to that stuff, on XBOX Live with Forza 2. I don't pay money and practice my butt off so I can go racing with a bunch of careless jerks!

So is it me, the game, or just a bad night?

Also, anyone else having problems with the replays in this game. All of my race replays are garbled up.

I think it is all of us getting use to a new sim and new cars Brian. While I very rarely get in over my head and make contact with others on track, I did a few times tonight. Really just comes down to getting use to the new sim in my case.

Not saying you wont get punted from time to time, but it is actually a very rare thing statistically.

Interesting outing. First time out today with Race07; these cars should make for some VERY close events.

It'll take a while to decide what I think of 'em, but they're extremely forgiving of small errors. Blunders that would have you off in rFactor or even most cars in GTR2 can be recovered from with only a loss of momentum. Sort of like paved runoffs I guess; you lose a bit but are not out. Or in a tree, like you would be in GPL... ;-)

Couldn't quite get down to this morning's practice pace but was pretty close. First race was OK, mostly just trying not to screw up once I got the lead and coming to grips with worn/hot tires. Hadn't done a long enough stint in the morning to see how that would go, so was surprised at the loss of grip after only 6-7 laps.

Second race was more interesting with the inverted top 8. I had some contact along the way also, but don't think anyone went off. I'm not sure though, since the replays are hosed so I couldn't check. How do they manage that in a game engine that's been around this long? Not like it's all shiny new code or anything. Amazing. Anywho, worked my way up and took first after the car ahead made an error. Best moment of the evening for me was a nice 3-wide entry into T1 during the race, with me in the middle. Braked as late as I dared but someone got inside me, so I backed out and went into the next right in 3rd. Set it up right though, and got under the other two into the tight uphill righthander for the lead. Fun stuff. Couldn't tell who I was racing since I had to turn the nametags off. With them on they just obscured the view since they're not elevated above the cars with arrows ala GTR2/rFactor.

Whatever the verdict on the cars, this game engine is positively CREAKING. Looks worse graphically than GTR2, and stuff that needed fixing in GTR is still broken. Plus stuff that worked then is broken now. Time for SimBin to pony up for some new underpinnings. Hey, I hear Geoff Crammond is not busy... ;-)

My first road race and I had a lot of fun. Hopefully I wasn't too much in the way when I got lapped. I really like the feel of these cars it's just going to take a lot of practice.

@Brian - The beginning of my replay from that race is a mess. I'm not sure if there are problems later in the replay, I didn't see any.
