USA FT-A: Euro-Ring

Great Job up front guys!
Didn't think I would get pole with that lap. 3 or 4of us were in the 17s, and someone was in the 16s for practice.
I was to cautious at the green light and sat in second for 8 laps and got a rear wheel off a bit to much.
Cant wait for the next one!

I counted myself lucky to qual 2nd with my time- Having the first pit stall paid off, and I got some clear track for the entire session.

Bill Groder got a great jump on the start from the 2nd row and slammed the door into T1, then I promptly slid wide into T3 and was lucky to come out of it all in 4th. Settled down a bit and did my best to chase Gregg, Dennis, and Bill for several laps. Worked the tires a little too hard keeping up (like I always do) and eventually got wide into the grass a bit in T5, which put Bryce on my tail. He passed me briefly, then tagged a lapper, which left me alone for a while. I guess Dennis went off at some point, and I started getting some looks at Bill, but I couldn't gain on him without cooking my tires, which I did time and time again. Happy with a podium, was a lot of fun.

Huge congrats to Gregg on his first R2P win! Woohoo!

1st time at this track and 1st time in these cars. Alot diff driving an open wheel car, but fun all the same. Took awhile to get my times down below the 1:20 sec lap. Quald in the top 10.
A little mayham off the start and thru the 1st couple corners. Ended up in 5th and stayed there for a while. Cummings slide off the track and entered in front of me and damaged my front splitter. He was in a tuff spot where he went off. After that I got tangled with a few lappers. The overtaking speed brought me to them in braking zones, not a good thing and I collected one and lost my front downforce. After that the car was unmanageble and undrivable. I finally put in wall and called it a night. Was fun racing and will return to these cars again.

The split up of the FT races to have an Amateur session has paid off. Everyone should take a look at the Aliens' best times in the other session. The top 6 drivers were running 1:18.1's and lower with Steve Blankenship turning consistent 16's with a best of 1:15.955. We would have had to put our racing on hold while those aliens lapped us.

This session was great...most of the drivers were on the lead lap and were able to race everyone they got near. A real fun time! I'm going to start practicing for the next track.

My first podium! Feels pretty good, even if it's an amateur race.

I ended up about where I thought. Fourth.

Race:

I got a great start and got past everyone in front of me. For the first few laps I managed to pull about a 2s gap, probably due to battling behind me. Finally Dennis dropped a wheel and Gregg was free to close on me. I had noticed he'd closed quite a bit on me in the right-hander at the end of the second back straight and I was wondering if I should brake a bit later. On the next lap I made a mistake on the fast right entering the second back straight, which let Gregg get close enough for what happened. On the right at the end of the back straights, Gregg executed a very nice pass. I saw it coming and tried to come back underneath him, but it wasn't there. I stayed close for a lap or two, but then, in the right-left-right after the start-finish, I spun. Fortunately, I didn't lose a position, just time. Gregg was out of reach now, unless he made a big mistake. Michael Kolar was close enough to keep me on my toes, especially since my rears were a bit too hot after the spin. I slowed a bit to cool them and Michael closed, but it looks from the times like he must have had a "moment" for he dropped back a bit.

When I came across the finish, I could see the tire smoke of Gregg's celebration. :-) I just wish I could have made it a bit more interesting for him :-)

I really like the idea of an "Amateur" series like this. It's easy to forget that there are people who think they might like sim racing, but are intimated by the speed of the average R2P racer, let alone the "aliens".
