GP'79: Montreal

4 drivers still in the server, packed in 12 seconds, i was leading but forced too much on front brakes and broke one disk, never happened before but i had extreme setting to make run this mexican bathtube (aka Rebaque)....1 touch to the wall, then few laps later stright in the wall.
As long as it lasted it was intense and fun!Grats to everyone who survived (even also for half race ;P)

Pssst, another DNF because of my poor handling with this hard mod. This time I got stuck in a kerb and my engine broke down trying to get out. Not much more to say about it.

My ISP had a fart with 30 seconds to go in warmup. Took about a minute to come back up so I couldn't get back in the server before the race started :-(

Probably saved me a DNF anyway, I worked out in warmup that the Brabham would have been about 20L short on fuel. What a poor job the beta team did on that one.

I was expecting a top 5 finish, if not even better. For some reason I do very well at Montreal and have a big advantage on sectors 2 and 3 which no one ever seems to work out how to do best, so I get a full free second on other cars generally. Plus I know it like the back of my hand and had placed top three in two prior races (in ATS), whilst almost everyone crashes out, so it was likely to be a typical F1 79 Montreal race once again.
I needed Milan to be one of those who crash out! lol

I messed up Qualifying because I can only go out twice, for two hot lap runs each (for the optimal setup/times) and when I only managed 1:35.4 I decided to do a third hot lap which would run out of fuel and not be able to pit, instead of pit after just two laps and go out for two more.

That was dumb, as the third lap can't do the top pace anyway, though at that stage I was more aiming for a 35.0 to be "good enough" and I could pretty well do high end 34's "assured" normally. Except I messed that lap up also!
Thus ended up 7th instead of 3rd where a normal sub 35 would have put me in the ladder.

And being 7th ended up being disasterous for the race when I was shunted through the second chicane on Lap 1 and careered into the barrier which destroyed the car. A few bits of red and lots of yellow, so I knew it would never be repaired too well. But I limped for the pits anyway, seeing even a half decent car could very likely advance just on attrition of others.

But no rear wing and a rear puncture made the car keep trying to spin around, as if it was driving on an ice skating rink! Slippery as on oil! That is just stupid really. No car drives like that, rear puncture and no rear wing, or not.
I had to limp at 50kph, and even less in corners, and four spins later the car spiralled off and just had to get stuck on a curb too! And being so low to the ground with the puncture it would not budge off it. So that was that, race over.

Sorry to Peter for bumping him in the second chicane on Lap 1. I was standing on the brakes trying not to hit him, but I did to my disgust. It was not my intension to ruin his race or mine.

Great track and lots of fun in the Ligier. Too bad I was so out of practice to hold it together for 72 laps. I drove 19 laps, then clipped the wall in T1, flipped, and that was it! :(

Bas tried to 'block' Milan from the Champ win today! lol
Bas led for most of the race and was clearly fastest, until he damaged his car and that slowed him down for others to catch again.
Then Roberto tried for the win - and also for himself to move to 2nd in the Chamionship. Until he crashed out.
Then Chris tried too.... but had a bit of damage that made it tough for him to be fast and survive.

They all encountered problems which opened the door for Milan to cruise on home for the win!

It was a very dramatic race, with a strong battle across the top 4 for the whole race almost!

Wow,what a race you guys must have had :o) Not even enough finishers to fill the podium LOL.
