FBMW: Lienz

Gutted.

I knew this was going to be a race of survival and was doing a bloody good job of it even if I do say so myself. Before the race I'd never done a lap here without causing some kind of damage to the car, but after 7 laps the car was still in mint condition. I wasn't quick but I was running about 7th due to retirements and fairly comfortable in that position.

Had a couple of minor contacts with the barriers after that but the damage wasn't causing me much problems and pitted at halfway after getting lapped for the first time.

Then I bloody well got discoed, what a bugger! It had been an eventful outlap, first of all my desk decided to collapse so I had the wheel fall into my lap, managed to control that and pulled over so I could make some emergency repairs.

I think I was running 5th at the time and at least one car ahead of me was damaged and I was catching up slowly.

Then got discoed, I'm going to firebomb BT.

Ah, I've dropped from server few times during practice, then everything goes fine in qual and again go out again in warm up :(.

Shame, I drive well in qual. finished 3rd within 0.070 sec. behind poleman and covering us top 3 into just 0.070 sec on that long track.

For some reason I thought we were gonna have a formation lap and typed "slow plz" on lap 1 cuz I thought the pace was too fast. Think I confused some ppl around me (and distracted everyone else). Sorry about that.

Congrats to podium and finishers.

This was a tough race with people crashing and falling down cliffs, so I took it easy at the start to avoid another DNF. This turned out to be a good tactic as I was climbing up positions until I was 7th shortly before my first pitstop.

Right in the lap before pitstop I went wide in one of those fast corners and crashed, damaging my suspension and making the pitstop 85 secs total. Luckily my crew could fix it and I could keep the pace till I found myself in a comfy 8th, then I just cruised till the checkered flag.

Wow I am knackered!

Did not help myself by screwing up on lap one, 76 sec pit stop, but then again so did teamies John and Simon amongst others, and me and Si finished 5th and 6th.

Thought this would be a tough race and so it proved, although still over half actually finished the race which was more than I expected.

Catching Rob in the closing stages but always realistically too far away unless he span.

Well done to all those who finished, certainly out of the ordinary and I hope you all (well most of you!) enjoyed the experience.

Qualification was a mess. Didn't get one clean lap. In my last flying lap Ben had spun in the esses near the end of the lap, and decided to spin his car around to get it going again. Lost a lot of momentum because of that, as to grab pole was a big surprise.

With the startprocedure, I was in a disadvatage. I'm usually good with standing starts, and the long straight after pinball alley meant a long draft for Jack. So after that straight he'd already overtaken me.
At the end of lap 1 his car disappeared and reappeared behind me :S. What happened behind me the laps afterwards I've no idea, as Scott dropped out, and Jack also disappeared.
He also lost control over that s/f bump, losing his wing.
Halfway through the race I did my stop and had a 30s lead. But Muphy's law kicked in, and the lap after my stop I was a victim of the s/f bump, and I lost my wing. Eventhough I hit the sides head on, I had suspension damage. But the LCD showed no damage to suspension. Still I was driving around with a steeringwheel aiming 30 degrees to the right :S.

The first few laps without a front wing and broken suspension I only did 2:42's, and I was losing rappidly on Jack. With a 25s lead at that time and 12 laps to go, I could only lose 2s a lap, and he was still in the 37's.
So I had to push hard with that bent car and when I got comfortable with it I could do 39's, which could still give me the win.
Every lap I was losing 2s, which was "on schedule" as there weren't enough laps. But still, with 2 laps to go, having a 5s lead with a broken car makes it pretty exciting :D.

Very happy with the win, as it didn't go quite as planned :P.

I've had a busy week and didn't like the layout choice so didn't bother practicing, and in qualifying I really didn't feel comfortable in the car, so I just thought I'd go out and enjoy myself and see what happens. I climbed from 8th to 2nd in the first two laps and was catching Jeff, but around those fast corners at the end of the lap I just got a little offline and damaged the car. Same place next lap the damage caused me to loose control on the brakes and that was that. Still, the first two laps were so much fun that it was worth it :-)

I started 5th, but I managed to be in 3rd position in the beginning of the race.

I crashed twice in the s/f bump, and my suspension was damaged, after that, I crashed again near the cliff, so my front wing was damaged. I spent in pit more than 100 seconds repairing my car :S

I don't know how I managed to finished 3rd, but I did :P

I won't forget this race for a while--the concentration was immense, all energy was sapped.

Was extremely happy to finish and am in awe of how Jeff and Jack kept running those lap times even with injury.

Appreciate the tough decisions you had to make for this race Nick.
