Vertigo: Donington

GREAT race with Matjaz, we had a nose to tail battle the whole race. He had the brakes on me, but I made up the ground in mid-corner and exit speed. We got together a bit in the chicane and I wound up backwards, but he was gracious enough to wait and let me back by. We had some more great racing all the way til the end.

Yeah, that looked like it was fun. These cars should make for a good spec series; too bad we don't have success ballast or something like that to use as the season goes on. That would make for some bang-up close racing (pun intended!)

Pretty uneventful race for me; Kent was on another page of the book, so all I could do was try to stay in touch as long as possible without screwing up and falling back into the fight going on behind me. Both gaps gradually opened over the course of the race, so I spent it mostly on my own.

Great job by Kent as usual, and the sportsmanship trophy goes to Matjaz for doing it right.

I have mixed feelings about this race. It was an enjoyable fight for third place but I just didn't feel comfortable in Vertigo to be able to compete at my best level. Haven't driven this car for ages and although I like the car I just didn't have the setup and the skills to be more competitive. I was surprised to see this race scheduled so I signed up very late and had no time to practice. It was a bit frustrating how unstable my car felt mid corner and when accelerating out of it (what was your wing setting guys?) so having a very stable car under braking was just not enough to beat Tom in our fight for the final podium position. He was struggling when braking for the chicane so there was my only chance to pass him. Almost made it but Tom held his composure and passed me back on the exit of the corner. Approaching the end of the race Tom began to struggle a bit in the Corkscrew as well so twice we ran side by side for a couple of corners but he managed to keep his position. Great racing Tom!

Congrats to Kent and Steve, you were to fast for both of us.

Pretty decent event for me, although I was off pace from practice by a few 10ths.

Got pole with a decent lap, even though I had to pass some traffic in sector 3. Was shocked to see that I was passing cars in qual? There were only a handful of cars on this track yet some of the guys left the pit so late then struggled to get around, seriously interfering with others qual attempts....oh well.

Got a good start while Steve and Matjaz raced each other allowing me to run a conservative lap one. Lap 1 is always interesting sliding around with cold tires adn a full load right after qualifying with grippy tires and no fuel.

By the end of lap one I had a 1 second lead. Found myself watching the gap too much this entire race but I watched it so much I got to see where I was slower and faster. After about 4 laps I found my rhythm and started opening up the lead.

By lap 10 I had about a 5-6 second lead and tried to just be consistant. Around lap 15 my lead was up to about 11 seconds and the fronts were starting to lose the effectivness but with that lead I just cruised it home from there not taking any chances.

Matjaz, my wings were 1-6.
