Extreme GT [Novice]

Fun race. The first stint was all me chasing Valterri for the lead. I just could not get around him. My best chance was when I got a good run on him coming onto the straight, but he must have had less wing because halfway down the straight I was no longer gaining. Got lucky when he bumped a backmarker in T1 and I earned P1, which I took into the pits with me after 30 minutes.

I gave up 6 or 7 positions in the pits because I forgot to shut off the car and then forgot to turn it back on (UGH), but was confident I'd get them back within the next 3 or so laps while everyone else pitted. Not so! I was worried someone might try to run the whole race on a single set of tires and take 100L and go for a splash at the 45m mark, but I was still only running in second (45 seconds back or so) with maybe 3 laps remaining in the race. It seemed someone had managed to go a full 60m on one tank and set of tires! Fortunately, it didn't happen that way and McRoberts got too low on fuel and had to pit. I re-took P1 and had to ease up a bit to save gas for the rest of the race.

Good times. Good driving by everyone in traffic.

Remember, though, just hold your line and drive like normal when you're being lapped. Most people allowed me by very cleanly but a few times, really early braking or erratic movement on the line almost made for a few sticky moments. Just be predictable. That's best!

What a race! Start was ok, lost a position. One of the lambos went off a few laps in and came back on right in front of me. He braked earlier than I thought and I rear ended him at the next turn. Sorry about that.

Made it to 2nd place and was about to pit when a 550 went off and came back on and side swiped me. Made it into the pits, got back out and up to 5th. Then the engine let go while I was in turn 1. It caught me off guard and I couldn't get out of the way of Larry in his C5-R.

Still, I had a good time. I think I will have to run a lower rpm and gearing in the straights, so as to keep my engine running for the whole race ;)

I thought I could just make it with no stops in the 575 if I was patient with the laptimes. Didn't quite make it though, so had to pit with what turned out to be 2 laps to go.

First race at R2P and had fun, even though I only got halfway through... hadn't done a race this long before and never had to do any sort of starteg before... My tyres gave out long before my fuel did at about 14 laps (!) and just about made it in... but then pressed escape so that was it for me :-( Guess I need to read the manual about pit strategy and how it works in GTR2..

I was quite happy about my qualifying time though, not too bad for a novice... not sure that some of the field were actually novices though, which is a shame... was looking forward to racing people of my own standard...
