GDC: GP2 @ Indianapolis

Good fun - thanks Mark, and also Antonio for waiting up. Was looking forward to the last half lap (even though I wouldn't have dared to cross the line before you!) - but just had a total freeze.

Had a nice view of the grid after a 180 on the start line.

Funny moment, looking back at the screen after fiddling with teamspeak I found myself deep in a the sandtrap - couldn't stop laughing when 2 or 3 more guys followed me in as well and clobbered me. And then I clobbered one of them back after I spun getting back on the track.

Impression of mod: well it's definitely not love at first site like it was with FBMW's and especially Tommy's FIS. I've got no idea about the clutch in them - I tested it beforehand and it appeared to do nothing for 90% of it's travel. Just on/off. Reminds me of my first car. No launch control either.

Rear grip - well I just got used to hanging the back out around corners. Had zero grip, but at least the car was predictable. I look forward to taming this beast.

Pit limiter - says it was on but didn't stop me hitting 100mph in there. I seem to recall in practice that it acted a rev-limiter, not a speed-limiter. Maybe that's what happened to Jim.

good go all, i have a long way to go to get this thing figuered. seems if you make any adjustment to throttle while in turn you are done. as long as you get the car stable before entry and dont make any changes until well past apex things are ok. that is not how these cars appear to handle in the french gp2 event i am watching. they seem to be able to get a bit of drift out of the car and are on the throttle right off the apex. maybe i just need to develop a nice soft base set to get acclimated in... ?

Yeah Randy, seems that almost all cars in Rfactor have problems with tire slip in some way. Hopefully we can get it all sorted out eventually.

Had a good fun spinning it all over the place (at least twice per lap).
Spent almost the whole 20 laps around Slobodan and I think we made a great progress in our synchronized sliding/spinning abilities.
IMO the mod is very fun to drive, but there's something seriously wrong with it.

really enjoyed my first race with gdc, thanks mark for putting the group together. very slippery, these cars, and the link randy refers us too is very interesting and presumably applicable to all the various series. thanks too to antonio for a very quick setup. i look forward to running this series in future on wed nite or any other. see you all at the track!

Good fun tonight, it is a tricky car, but the FT made a great job training for these cars, I felt very confident with the car , even when I used to struggle with any sort of big OW, the circuit helped me too,
I tried to setup the car to be fast on the oval, I hate a lot having drag on the straights, with some problems at the exit of slow corners, next time I'll try to balance it more.

No doubt these cars are a bit of a handful. But I want to give it a fair chance before we make a change. If anything, I may make a switch to the “Gentleman’s Physics” if we can not get a handle on the cars.

Part of the problem, I think, is relative to the cars we have been driving. The trainers are pretty docile when compared to about everything which may be making this change appear more drastic than what it really is.

My set up was fine. No rear ARB, diff settings were pretty high and I used a lower first gear which allowed me to lay on it off the corners. Problem was I ran out of rear tires with about 2 laps to go. They were yellow and I was spinning. A lot.

To use a quote from a famous baseball player who, in the times of specializing, comes to the plate with a different persons bat every time. When asked why, he said it is not the arrow it is the Indian. That player is Many Ramirez and he knows a bit about swinging a bat.

Same may apply here with these cars. Different arrow, same Indians. It will take us a while but we will grow in to them.

My thanks to Antonio for the setup. Remarkable job of putting it together. I wouldn't know where to start. It was a bit of a demolition derby but it is good way to learn the limits of the car. BTW...be careful of speeding in the pits and DON'T ignore the drive through penalty if you do get caught.

It was great guys. I've managed to show up even though I couldn't get TS to work.. sorry for the noise in the beginning and especially for the restart... just spun out in T1 and got trapped in the sand trap...

I must agree with Ruslan, the two of us deserve a special award for displayed skill in synchronised spinning :))))

I would have liked to have spent more time prior to the race, getting used to the car...

Especially for people like me who are used to touring cars. I just instinctively pressed the throttle after hitting apex which as you might have noticed resulted in spinning galore... Well I did manage to get the hang of it at the end... I wouldn't mind giving this mod another spin (or more at the track)..
