Intro to GT3 Cup

Well another podium finish..... nope another disconnect... Good job to the winner, it was fun for the 10 laps i was there.

Was a fun race... wish my anti virus had'nt decided to do a scan as I was overtaking 9th.(or was it 19th or 11th?)lol. Lost MANY, MANY positions (More than 10 I think).

Anyways..All that is supposed to be turned off. Spun a couple times, had trouble with overcrowding in corners and was forced off track a couple times.
At least I didnt have to park it. Tried to run a clean race.

WOW! My 1st online race ever in the 12+ years of sim racing. I was pretty nervous as I always knew how my previous competition would react (AI). These guys were real! We gathered at Valencia National, 26 of us. I did pretty well in qualy, placing 9th. Although, I beat my time in warm-up with race setup and fuel.
The race went well. I got a good start and was up to 5th after the precarious 1st turn. Everyone in front of me behaved well, thanks. I cruised in 5th for 10-12 laps staying 3.5s behind 4th. 6th was about the same distance behind me. It was good to stay in the open for awhile until my nerves settled. A few cars went off in front of me when we hit lapped traffic. I didn't noticed that I was in 4th until a few laps later. 4th must of tangled with lappers. I was now 3.5s behind 3rd and gaining about .5-.6s a lap depending on traffic. But 5th was gaining on me fast (Jerry Chen). We scrapped for 5-6 laps like this. He then tapped me going in to the off camber last turn and passed. I followed him that lap and then made an excellent move on him into T1. We gave each other plenty of room. I'm back in fourth with 5 to go. What? Running out of fuel. Arggh. Into the pits for a top off. I wound up in 10th after completing 2 more laps.

I had a blast! Got bumped pretty hard during the first lap and the guy got by me. I kept seeing cars just stopped on the track, I suppose dicos? Anyway, traffic ahead of me and one of those stopped cars is parked at a turn. I didn't see him because of the traffic so it was a big surprise. Swerved hard to miss the car and ended up looping into the gravel. I watched several cars go by while trying to dig my way out. I think before the spin I was in 8th or 9th place? Dunno for sure but after the spin I was in 15th. Had some good racing with a few fellas and mostly just waited for them to make a mistake then pass them. I took med/hard tires and lasted the entire race no problem. The fronts were getting fairly worn the last two laps tho so I was glad the race was over.

Tim, replay? My game crashed after the race, when I returned to the monitor, before it could export the replay.

Fun stuff, a shame I probably won't be able to do these races when S4 starts, just way too early on friday. (Not even 7:30pst?) :(

Qual was fine, pulled 4th out of my butt. Saw Steve's laptimes in practice session, was looking forward to bending Mr. Smith's fenders. ;)

I totally blew the start. I never saw any lights at all, and didn't even get on the gas until I saw Dean almost cream into the back of me at the start and take evasive action.

So by turn 1, down to 10th place. Had some tight fender grinding action with Dean and Devin for the first bit of the race. Eventually worked back up through to 6th, realized the leaders had probably built a big lead that I wasn't going to catch back up. Did manage to close up to Garret in 4th. We were nose to tail for almost half the race it felt like. Looked like I was faster in the corners and on the brakes, but Garret could pull out of the corners better than me, dunno how low you had your wing there. ;)

After several laps and tries of peeking inside, and backing off as Garret closed the door, managed to squeeze through on the final turn. I think about a lap later though, Garret got me right back in turn 2. He got inside position going into the braking zone, and held it all the way through. Couple laps later, saw him pit for fuel. Doh. By then, only about 10 laps left, and Steve had built a comfortable cushion while me and Garret were scrapping with each other.

Great stuff Garret! Incredible racing for your first ever online race. :)

I saw a mail from Tim, giving me the password a few minutes before qualifying. I didn't have a setup or any laps at this track with this Porsche. Somehow I got p5 on the grid while just trying to finetune a setup.

The start was good and going into T1 I noticed that my wheel forces got reversed somehow, after qualifying. I thought about quitting as it felt impossible to race like that. I decided not to stop, but it wasn't really that much fun with the wheel feeling totally weird. Still a comfy second after Billy's disco but Claus' pace was not attainable for me this time.

Edit: perhaps the force issue happened because I was driving at the end of warmup.

Fun race, although frustrating due to two sand excursions, the first of which cost me a LOT of positions (from 14th or something to dead-last 24th or 23rd).

After the spin it was a race against time to work my way back up through the positions and I ended the race in 14th. Not too bad a performance from a back-runner like myself.

The replay is for the earlier Euro race, isn't it?
