Intro to Extreme nGT

A blast! Although I spun or got spun in first corner loosing my 7th starting spot. but I am used to being in the back... lotsa fun and alot of clean racing as seen from my cockpit.

Grats to David, Rick and Dean! Still new to GTR2 so not sure if I did anything wrong or random engine failure :/ Oh well David and I had some fun there at the bigging :)

I tabbed out to ask if I could leave the server and when I tabbed back in it said I had been booted. Hope that was due to request and not something I did wrong. If I did anything wrong sorry :(

I qualified towards the middle of the pack and had a decent start. I was able to get by a few cars who had a bad start and then Dan Quaroni graciously spun out in front of me on turn 2 and I was in 7th or 8th by the end of the first lap. Mike Kolar was in front of me and he started to slowly pull away and despite my best efforts he slowly faded from my view. At the same time I was pulling away from the guys behind me and this race was shaping up to be a lonely one for me. Me running laps by myself usually spells disaster for me but I was able to keep it together tonight as I ran half the race alone.

With about 18 minutes or so left I finally pitted. My strategy was run a full tank of gas and when I pitted decide if I thought I needed tires or not. Well, my tires were feeling greasy so I put new on all around. I came out of the pits and was about 7 seconds behind Mike. I wasn't all that thrilled, I figured he would slowly pull away again. But after 2 or 3 laps I was within 2 or 3 seconds and there was still about 8 minutes left. For some reason this made me very nervous and I almost lost it a few times but finally I was able to pass him cleanly with 2 laps left.

A lonely race with a very exciting finish for me. Good stuff and clean racing all around (as far as I know). This will be a fun series.

My best qualifying position so far (8th,) but lost a few positions from a poor start. Made it cleanly through the first few laps until I was slammed from behind going into a turn and spun off track into a wall. Had to limp around to the pits with a flat tire.

After I got back on track, I settled into a decent rhythm and had a few battles as I tried to gain back positions. Felt like I drove a good race and could have finished much better if it weren't for somebody else's reckless driving. Despite the crash, I still had fun and am looking forward to next time.

Hey, Frosty. You pushed the engine too hard, either by having your rev limiter maxed in the setup and not upshifting soon enough, or having too small a radiator opening, or simply being too greedy with downshifting during braking and using too much of your engine to slow the car down. Any of these reasons (or a combination of them all) can lead to a quick end to your race.

I had a lot of fun this race. Didn't set a tire wrong the whole time, and had a very exciting last 10 minutes.

My pit strategy was to go in early after a little over 20 minutes- I figured with the size of the field, I didn't want to be sharing pitlane with a bunch of cars at 30 mins. I qualified 9th, but picked up 2 spots on the start.

Did everybody see the green at the same time? Our league had some trouble with standing starts because some guys wouldn't see the red lights, only the green. I think it was Tom Rue in front of me who didn't take off on the green, and I wondered if he was just snoozing or if that was a problem.

Anyway, got through T1 and later the hairpin nice and clean following Barret. He was suffering from a lot of push on his cold tires, and soon slid right off, which left me in 6th by halfway through the first lap. My light fuel load helped me draw away steadily from Jared, but wasn't quite enough to help me keep up with Ray, though I pushed pretty hard trying. The next 15 minutes were pretty quiet- if it hadn't been for lapping Jeff, I would have been very lonely :P

I frantically worked the clipboard to go without changing tires- probably I should have looked at their wear percentage. I think I worked them a little too hard chasing Ray, because by the time everybody else was done pitting, Jared was closing on me at more than 1/2 second a lap with 15 minutes to go. He closed the gap and raced me hard for several laps, that was a great time! Finally as shown in the screenshots, my fronts gave up and I went wide, and he slipped on by with only a couple of laps to go.

Congrats to the podium, Rick it looks like you also had a good battle at the end. And congrats to Ray for a particularly good showing, you'll have to tell us what magical pill made you that fast ;)

Thanks for the advice Ray. I had my rad set to 3, is that too small for these cars? If I had to guess I would guess it was my downshifting that ended it. But the corner that I was doing it abruptly in was the next corner on the track :/ I did a 25 minute stint earlier in the day offline (1x fuel thats why I was a bit unsure on the fuel) and didnt have a problem. Oh well, twas fun while it lasted. I wont be buying anymore engine parts from Wal-Mart either!

Overall a good race for me, but I was disappointed to see Frosty out so early. We were having a good battle, but he seemed to be faster than me in one corner in particular and it took me a while to figure it out. It would have been interesting over the course of an hour :)

It is most likely downshifting too early or upshifting too late that caused a failure that early in the race Frosty, especially if you never got an overheat warning.

From my view all was good with respectful and sensible driving by all that I encountered.

Thanks for the great race boys. This one was a lot of fun. Good a good start and was able to hang on to the leaders for a while as we pulled away from the field. Then they started pulling away on me too. :-)
After Frosty's engine let go I was in third and trying hard to close the gap to second. But Rick was keeping the pace pretty high and I was slipping back. Planning on going deep with a full tank and not changing tires, I just tried to keep the gap close. By the halfway point, I assumed the lead when David and Rick pitted, and immediately put the hammer down. Did about 8-9 laps as fast as I could, then pulled in for more fuel myself.
Worked fairly well as I came out in 2nd, with Rick about 10 secs back (he must have taken tires).Turns out it wasn't enough though. hehe. He caught up to me with about 15 mins to go. We then proceeded to have a great battle! Rick was all over my rear bumper as we dodged in and out of traffic for several laps. That was great racing bud, really enjoyed that! Best part of the race. Sorry if we rattled anybody on our way through! Then I went a little too wide once....and he pounced. hehe. It was all I could do just to keep up with him till the end from there.
I like this series, think I'll be back! Grats on the win David. Cya's on track.

I felt pretty good about this race until i watched the replay and discovered i owe Mark Foreman an appology.

Sorry, Mark, i tapped you in the 180. From my cockpit it just looked like you spun in front of me and we hadn't touched, but from outside in the replay i can see i'd just lost track of where we were in the turn and while i thought you were wide enough to have missed the apex, you were still able to recover and turn in. i locked up but it was too late.

as Michael Kolar pointed out, i was dealing with brake problems all race. took about 7 laps, 2 spins and an off -- all at the Complexe du Lycee, before i learned to modulating them somewhat successfully.

by then i was back to 16th. so i was happy to end where i did.

Mike Avery was all over me for the last few laps until my inconsistent braking apparently forced an evasive maneuvre on his part.

a good race considering my setup problems, but with one embarassing blemish.
