Vintage GT: Brianza B

I'm dissapointed with some lappers in the GT40's. It isn't cool to interfere with lead lap car battle. While I shouldn't be distressed over something like this, my emotions ran high and cost me a couple spots. My losing the spots is with out question my fault, but the lappers could make more friends by not causing trouble.

So gutted! I had the win in the bag, with a healthy 15-20sec gap to 2nd with 5 laps to go. But I narrowly miscalculated on fuel and had to back off so much I gave it away 3 corners from the checker. Matted the throttle on the oval and crossed the line with the engine sputtering and dying.

After running 2nd all race behind Les, and pitting a lap after him, I made a last minute decision to not take tires, and I lowered my fuel refill. This gifted me 1st within a lap. Even elected to not repair damage, including bent steering. Car was totally drivable, but about 2secs off pace. Not an issue with the gap I had. Damn fuel change bit me.

I botched the start (never put it in 1st! Doh!) and was left with a phenomenal battle with Les for the whole first stint. We traded spots a couple times, me on the front straight, and him taking it back in the curves. Unfortunately, I bumped him going into the 2nd chicane and we both went off. I felt awful about that Les. Still do. Just misjudged my braking. We rejoined in the same positions and I continued to pursue, but blew my braking into the cross over and overshot. Ended up ~12 secs back and fought to catch up for a good 10 laps. Finally did, both of us dealing with pros/cons of traffic. Then Les pitted and I followed suit a lap later. Took suspension damage on my in-lap coming out of the cross over (too distracted doing fuel estimate). And the rest. Well. Bitter sweet. First pole and first almost certain win. Threw it away on too much multitasking.

Apologies also to a back marker. I misjudged our closing speeds into the second chicane and clipped you. Really wish I'd been more heads up. Hope it didn't damage you badly.

Yikes. I hope I wasn't one of those drivers Mike. Don't recall getting mixed up with any lap battles.

Apologies to Paulo for the contact on the high bank. Paulo was damaged and struggling to keep it low, but drifted up in front of me at the wrong time. I was heavy on the brakes but still gave a solid whack from behind. Not sure how I could have handled it differently, I lifted much further back and still couldn't keep clear, felt bad about the contact.

Other than that my race was a tale of only a few small mistakes; I was still top ten and hopeful to pick up a couple of spots when I pitted, but my crew ignored my instructions and kept me in for an extra minute of repairs, sealing my fate.

Nice job through T1 on the start, and through most of the race on the high bank. Other than my incident with Paulo I didn't see too much drama on that part of the track.

Nice job also to our first timers, this was a particularly tough track to be saddled with a Tier 1 car. Hope the 914 drivers weren't too lonely all race. Next race is unlimited car selection, then for the race after you'll likely have all 3 tiers to choose from.

Congrats to Eduardo for herding that Vette onto the podium! I was very surprised at the times you guys were getting out of that thing, I tried it and wasn't even close.

I get in the way a bit, Im sure of it. I try not to (I was in maybe the only 906 tonite?). We all have to remember this one little bit: every second a lapper gives up to us is a second he also gives to the guy he is chasing, and the guy chasing him. While lappers may not be involved in the fray of cars rounding them, they may still very much involved with cars unseen. It is a rough balance for every1. The lapper is probably giving a bit of room. Maybe not as much as we want. The time he gives us seems an eternity to him. just something to consider. Emotions will run high, and thankfully. If they did not this game would not be interesting, would it?

I had a blast out there tonite. I tangled with some back markers and loved it. it is hard to make a usefull pass in the 906 vs GT40 on this course. I knew that if i battled for every inch at every opportunity I cause both of us to run lower lap times, at best giving away time to all the other cars and at worst Id spin myself and the GT40 i was trying to get by. Comp froze while in 13th about 5 laps from fin. No tears. I loved it.

Had a good battle with pete going until i needed to pit i missed the pit entrance had to drive around again to slide threw my pit stall and had to go around again this time i was able to get in my stall after 3 attempts. Forgot to turn fix damage and sat there for eternity it seemed.
Guess i should of practice driving into the pits but still had fun.

Well, I managed to finish only 3 laps down! My first race driving one of these classics.. I was really surprised at my best lap, a 2.30.354! The best I had managed in practice was a 2.38.xxx. I had thought about driving the Daytona Coupe, but the 914 was much more stable and better suited for a first time drive.

Pete, I think I was the back marker you tapped. I tried to get out of your way, but some other cars had just passed me, and I was jittery! No damage was done to me, hope you didn't have any!

This was my second Race2Play race and first in this series. (Thanks Mike for letting me in it).

Through the week I, as I learned this track, was greatly frustrated with the 'feel,' of braking - and steering too. After a lot of experimentation with various settings I managed to get a bit more consistent during heavy braking. I turned some of the sounds down so that I could really hear the tires scrub before lockup, and finally got the braking and steering sensitivities set decently.

My race went well in that, so far as I know, slow-old-me didn't cause anyone any grief. I went off the track a few times - mostly on purpose when being lapped; once or twice due to being nervous while being lapped. Oh but I did nose into the fencing in the last left (second last turn) before the banking. Someone came along, before I could back up a bit to resume, and hit my rear - then backed up and roared off. Sorry to whoever that was. I thought to escape out and retire but with only a few laps to go decided not to.

Lost it once early on near the end of the banking. Luckily no one was around to be affected by my spin - and lucky too I didn't hit anything. Just down shifted while spinning and carried on. Ha ha. I think maybe I should have been running up high on the banking and not down near the yellow line?

I have to say that, for all the talk of iRacing's superior physics I'd say GTR2/Race 07/rFactor do a pretty convincing job of it too - once you tweak all the settings. iRacing is still a bit better road feel wise but not when losing body parts. Of course I've only ever observed others losing them. I never have. Ha ha.

Also, while of course I try to stay on track, it's nice not worrying about a Safety Rating if I do go off track a bit - either accidentally or on purpose.

So far this Power and Glory mod looks, sounds, and 'feels,' great. Even the music is good! I am looking forward to more races - and more car choice.

Speaking of which... Can someone tell me what car is pretty fast, and handles well "out-of-the-box," There are so many cars to choose from I don't know where to begin. I drove the Porsche 914 this race. It was alright but didn't have the speed to mix it up with you all.

Good mirrors are also a big plus. I like to see everyone behind me - until they lap me! :-(

Some great racing last night. The start was hectic and I should of gave a few more feet to Chris M. Breaking into one of the turns I caught Chris M's bumper pushing him off the track. Sorry about that and I know a penalty is due. Sh!t happens. Pulling over and waiting right then would of created another pile up of cars so I journey'd on. Had some great battles with Mike K, Ray, and Daniel for most of the race. Always 2-6 sec gaps between us. A little bobble and the race would be on again. 2 races in a row I got the pitstop nailed. Came in and cycled thru everything with no problems. Took gas only and 40 sec later I had gained a few spots and came out in front of Mr. Miller. I quickly got back into a nice rhythm and motor'd home to a 4th place finish. Just waiting on the penalty to see where I end up. Sorry again to Chris M.

Congrats to Hernan and Pete for top finishes. I feel for you Pete. You clearly had the speed, but those tiny little mistakes can bite you.

Eduardo had outstanding pace in the L88 Roadster and while I was only .1 off on fast lap, he was consistently quicker overall. That ended up positioning him so he didn't have to battle with others and concentrated on nailing apexes. I on the other hand seemed like I was contantly looking in my rear view at GT40's crawling over me.

I didn't extract everything out of the car during quali. I was considerably off my quickest time which landed me in unfamiliar territory (12th) at the start.

I'm not sure if someone was sleeping at the start, but somehow I made it all the way up to 4th by the second lesmos. Eduardo was just in front for a few laps, but I lost sight once the GT40's were all over me. I simply couldn't concentrate enough to run laps at Eduardo's pace.

Congrats on a fantastic run Eduardo. We are seperated by only 1 point now.
