USA FT: Goldenport

yea, my race was full of suck with bits of blow stuck in it. I qualfied 4th which wasn't so bad. on the warmup lap, though, I threw the car off the track while warming up the tires and lost my front wing. no front wing plus a really, really bad start wasn't very good for me. I actually managed to stay in 4th till the last corner on the first lap when my wheel downshifted to 2nd instead of 3rd, and I spun it. I dropped down to below 10th, and I thought that was pretty much it. anyway, I just started driving, and people started dropping around me, and I eventually found my way in 8th place, and finished there. I was about 1.5 seconds off my pace because of my wing. if I didn't make that mistake on the warmup lap, I could have seen a top 5. ahh well, it happens that way, I suppose.

12 hours of practice and not a single lap.

But, this is not sour grapes. I learned something and I hope you read this and don't repeat my mistake.

I am really aggravated right now.

My qual sucked which it usually does when it is only a 5 minute session. Actually, that probably doesn't mean thing, but whatever.

Started 18th, by the end of the first lap, was up to 12th, running consistent laps, minding my own business, eventually made it up to 9th because of other dropping or crashing.

While running 9th, had a great battle with Steve Parsons for about 4 laps or so, then starting either the last lap or second to last lap, I slipped or something, and he gets by and we are racing for 10th. By this time Brian Stearns, my teammate, joins the fray, so all 3 of us are battling, and on the last lap, VIDEO FREEZE UP, FPS SUCK to 1, I end up somehow going backwards and get DQ.

There is a theory being floated that some guys crashing their cars after crossing the finish line may have contributed to the FPS thing. I don't know, it doesn't really matter. Kind of like the "Big One" at Daytona! Ain't nothing you can do about it!

What matters to me is another damn DNF!

It was a great race for me. I practiced hard, and I think it paid off some. An early off left me in 16th, but I didnt dispair, just tried to chase some cars down. Managed to get a couple passes, and attrition and closing in on a couple more spots right at the end. I owe the top 10 finish to Tim. He disappear from right in front of me going into the last turn. i managed to keep it going to the finish line with not much idea what was going on. frame rates dropping out.
overall really happy with the race. fun stuff.

Congrats to Tommy C. and Tim McArthur. I enjoy it when Tim participates in a race I am in. I am so used to having him lap me that I automatically pull over when he is in the mirror. You can imagine my surprise when he didn't show up! Also thanks to Tristan and Tom O'Gorman for giving somebody else a chance for once. LOL

I think you compete against Goldenport and your own setup more than you do against the other drivers at this track. I must have done 100 laps at least practicing for this race which is the key if you want to do well and it paid off for methis time....

Thanks for the great racing folks! I had a blast trying to work my way up after the 1st lap drive-thru penalty I took for punting Tim.

Qual: Couldn't get a good lap or approach best times so ended up 12th.

Race: Awesome start. Great first lap. In 4th by the end of lap one.

Dumb mistake as I turn in too early, go over the curb and bounce my low rider sideways and drop a couple spots. When I come back on I don't see Peter Holt and I move over and bang wheels with him badly, sending him off line (but not off track).

Don't worry, he gets even before a full lap is done by completely punting me at the hairpin (3?). This was just what was needed to send my race into a tail spin.

I lost the front wing, struggled from there, somehow ran out of fuel. It was ugly.

I also had the massive FPS issue at the end. I was able to slow and stay on track but three cars around me were off when things came back.

If this was caused by people crashing after they finish then everyone should know it badly impact those still running. There should be rule about this if this proves to be the case.

Ah not much I can add after what i just read here...ah screw it let me and to the Squak box, Practiced for many hours, come into qualifying, not to bad, 8TH I'm ok with that. Start the race and lap 2 tires are still cold I loose it over the smallest little piece of rumble strip in T4 ----Race over or just about, loose rear spoiler and damaged car, but then it gets worse! I slowly nurse it around towards the pits, 2 turns to go I spin again and take on more damage, oh well thats racing I guess.
Geez for these slow ass cars we all seem to have a problem keeping them on the track or away from each other.

Biffed qual and couldn't get into the low 1:09's for some reason. I appreciated Tim moving over for me while I was on a hot lap though.

Race:
I know I got lucky on that one. Between Tristan, TomO, Tim, and T Gunn I somehow ran out a gap in front after they all had issues, and tried not to throw it away. Guess the racing gods smiled upon me today, which is fine after the complete shit day I had last week where everything went wrong in every race.

Following Mr. Gunn for the first 2-3 laps was a non-stop heart attack though :-) His shallow lines and locking up the inside wheels on every turn completely threw me for a loop, had no idea what I was going to do there for a while :-)
