USA F3: Mosport

Hmmmm, a better race than my Euro event was!
I turned up with the 'adjusted for low online grip' cars and the Qual car was exactly as per the Euro event, so that was a good sign.

The race car, which had not been so good for the Euro race, I just added 1 more rear wing to balance it out better and that was fine enough too. But every lap I was scared to death of the fast right coming off the back straight, where the rear end had broken free in the Euro race! So I could not run that section at full speed, to be safe and sure!
That probably cost about 0.1 to 0.2sec each lap.
I was just aiming to even FINISH!

Chaos in the first laps left Tristan in the lead and myself second. And no real threats behind so I just settled in with the aim to finish 2nd!
Amazing how nerve racking it can be after you have had a crash in a prior event of the same car and track!

I noticed Fabij gaining bit by bit late in the race but I could see he would not be able to catch anyway, and I just set up to do laps JUST fast enough to ensure that gap would not be closed too far by the end. If he gained a bit too much I ran a faster section to control it. But all in all he was about 0.5sec a lap faster than I could run safely.

Oh yeah...my great pit stop!
Just as I was turning in down pit lane I looked to my console for the Speed Limiter key and in that split second I must have straightened the wheel and ran straight off onto the main track again! So I lost 8 seconds in recovering and getting into pit lane!
Luckily at that mid race stage I had 23secs to spare.
But it could have been a bigger disaster and hit the wall!
What a stupid thing to do! Sheesh.

Early on I made a few runs at faster laps to see if it would be any use but it was going to be too dangerous to gamble on surviving that idea, for a likely zero benefit, so I settled in for my own race to 2nd.

Pretty good race, tried the arrive and drive thinking I might be able to bum a base set off of someone but no one responded, so I tried to whip something up with a few laps of practice. Ended up with a set that had too much oversteer on exit and too much understeer on entry. Also could not get the tire temps up to good operating temperature.

Thought I had a podium locked up but Fernando Babij came rocketing through the field and took it back. I didn't even try to fight him for position he was so much faster.
