V8 Hidden Valley

It was OK. Some people I prefer to let by on main straight by lifting than have behind my back dive bombing for T1. But OK nevertheless.

I hope that is not me Johan. The only reason I would ever dive bomb someone is if I flat out screwed up going into the corner(which could happen). I enjoyed racing with you. I was on worn tires and knew you were going to get by but you never did.

As for my race, another DISCO!!!

Guess I shouldn't complain, only had maybe 4 or 5 so far.

Congrats to Janko, Rory and Nuno.

I think I'll be able to make this series after all. I just have to stay up, run the race and then hit the hay.

But the way I've been going lately, I may have to switch to the Disco Kings (Sir Pete and Sir Finn?)

Pretty workman-like outing for me, but an enjoyable race.

Almost forgot the darned thing, and jumped straight into Q without any practice since my short, ill-fated effort the last time we ran V8's here. One thing for sure was I was going to watch out for that car-eating tire barrier in T1!

The track's simple enough and the V8's are stable so it wasn't hopeless like my brief outing in the 79's the other night (those things require seat time!). Was expectedly slow in Q, but no matter - long race would give me time to get it figured out. Ran hards and way too much fuel for the race (fin w/20+L!). I figured to stop on consecutive laps a bit after midway if the grip allowed, thinking that would preserve the balance best.

Got a good start and went cleanly from 10th to 7th early on L1 before Allen got by me with a little bump. Settled into 8th behind him and just tried to relearn the quick way around. Moved up to 7th when Craig went off in T1, then 6th when Andy spun off the last corner. Was still chasing Allen for 5th when he made the same error I'd made last time here and caught the dreaded T1 tire wall. Kaboom! I feel your pain, man... ;-)

I soon saw Mark coming from behind, and as he looked quicker I didn't contest the place when I got a bit wide in the first right hander. Was hoping to follow him up the field, but caught the tire wall in the last corner and munched the front a bit losing about 4 seconds. Was bummed but then passed the line in 1st! Everyone ahead had pitted then, so I just settled in and ran out my stint in 1st.

Tire stops were on 28-29 as planned and were uneventful (unusual for me!). I rejoined in 10th after the second one, then hit 9th when Craig sailed off of T1 for the second time. Was planning to just do quick, error-free laps and wait to see how all the stops cycled out, but got into dicing with Nuno for a couple of laps since his tires were obviously hurting. We swapped places a couple of times with me screwing up under braking in T1 twice. As I was off the racing line, the lower grip got me and the second time I went off and lost about 6 seconds. Dumb!

Chilled out after that and gradually caught John, who was in 4th. Don't know that I could have gotten by, but it was shaping up to be a fun race to the finish. Unfortunately he ended up flatting his LF when he hit Chip, who had spun off an inside curb when we were close behind. One of those things...

That was pretty much it; the gaps ahead and behind were over 10 seconds and there wasn't time to do anything but screw up, so I just brought it home the last few laps. Not pretty, but the errors I made turned out not to be of consequence; even without them I'd have still been behind Nuno.

My only spin was coming out of final turn caused by a bloody cat jumping on my lap! If it ever comes back in the house I'll be using a staple gun to make sure it doesn't move during race time in future :(

Other than dropping down to near last from a comfortable 4th. A pretty uneventful race. Mark managed to get me in the final stages of the race. Just couldn't hold him off this time, tyres were screwed.

Andy, I was watching the replay and was shocked to see you lose it like that!

Was having a good race until I turned in at T1, caught the almco and spun into the gravel, didnt think much of it and was waiting for the dust to clear to carry on when I realised that it wasnt dust but the engine which seemed to have exploded on contact. Well I got the hell out of there and am now filing in my insurance claim! Grats to podiums.
