Historic F1: Silverstone

Huh?? I don't know what happened to the race....I got booted and then there was no server listed in rFactor anymore. Not that I could probably rejoin IF it was just my own Internet reason for disconnection.
So even now i still don't know if it was me or the server that died.
I could join other League's servers ok, of three I tested.

In very early practice I was booted once.
In Qual I had a big "Synchronising Game" when I headed to the lights. That took about 3 secs or so to complete. Then everything ran fine again for ages.
I must have been online for close to 2 hours without a full disconnection since that first time.

In the Race I had another big Synchronising Game on about Lap 3 and all of a sudden my car 'jumped' to be about to ram David Smith so I had to turn in tighter to avoid contact (maybe just a fake ghost effect!) and then spun off the inside curbing. For a moment I thought that fluke 'jump' was even going to have me accelerate out better and get a pass from it - and then it spun out!

The game seemed to keep going and cars shot on past as I woud expect to see, so I resumed racing.
But about 20 seconds later everyone 'disappeared' and then I lost connection...and then could not even find the server in the list anymore!

Bloody annoying, after making a few hours effort to work out the track and things going very well for an expected top 5 finish at least, hopefully.

I blew both my qualifying runs and started last.
Had a good start and went easy for a couple of laps. Aubrey Windle gave me a good fight in his pimpish Arrows. I bumped him a little (sorry bout that one) but I think we both had no damage.
After that I remember brief, clean dices with Messers Stibling and Zargani.
Then Peter discoed and I was P3, about 5 sec back of Smith and Banta after Lap 6.

From then on I drove as hard as I ever had in these cars. I think I ran 11 laps in a row in the 1:23 range. A tenth at a time I got the gap down, while I watched David and Steve dicing with brilliant skill and patience. My goal was to get on Steve's ass and give David some breathing room.

Finally I caught them with 3 to go, right as Steve was pushing hard. Steve made a little bobble exiting the final chicane and I squeezed by on the outside. My plan then was to follow David home to the checkers.

But as we came down to turn 3 I missed my braking point a little bit and had to swerve inside of David to avoid contact. The next thing I knew I was in the lead! David came back at the end of the Hangar Straight, and I wanted to let him by, but Steve was too close so I kept the hammer down.

Steve then passed David and held second until David made an amazing pass in the final turn of the final lap. Great job by both of them to avoid contact or spins while driving so hard for so long. Can-Am 1-2-3!

All I can write about is what a great series this is! The competitors here are some of the best on R2P!

My race didn't go well, I had a good set-up but got greedy on too many exits and lost positions. I placed 24 laps of fuel in the car, found myself needing gas, stopped for a splash only to find out they took the fuel filling hose & tank back to the trailer :-) coasted around the final lap waiting for the checkered, crossed the line then it DNF'd me???

Only positive note for myself is fastest race lap, other than that, the best part of the schedule is coming to where the Ferrari hopefully can shine, now can the driver live up to the chassis expectations???

I don't believe I will continue with this series. I can't put in the practice time to be competitive in these cars. I have damaged my car in every race, then limped around to salvage spots and avoid a DNF but it's only a matter of time before I ruin the race by getting in the way.

So unless I can get prepared and feel comfortable at a track, I probably won't race in Historic F1 again this season. I have fun driving them but I cannot manage a competitive pace safely.

not too much to report on this race. I grabbed the pole by just 2 tenths from the ever surprising Steve Smith. I got an ok start and pulled a gap of about 2 seconds on the first lap. But to my surprise, thats as big as the gap ever was. From there on Steve would gain some tenths then lose a few tenths. For most of the race we were never more than about a second apart. Steve would make most of his time at Stowe corner and on the Hanger Straight while i would pull my time back through Abbey and the run to the chicane. Late in the race Mike, my Brabham teammate, caught us. He made pretty quick work of both of us and pulled away. Steve used the oppertunity to pass me as well. On the last lap things were not looking good for me to get second back, but something happened to Steve in Abbey and i got a huge run. Steve's Ferrari horsepower was enough to make it interesting going into the final chicane. The pictures tell the rest and i managed to grab second at the last moment.

Damn, these cars are alot of fun and damn this series is tough. Congrats to the podium.

My race involved chasing Aubrey all race long. As some fuel began to burn off, I began to close with him but I made one mistake where I got my lefts onto the grass coming out of T1 and that was all he needed. He legged it out and I couldnt get back to him. Great job Aubrey.

What a series! Ryan, you should reconsider. Give yourself some time. You're fine.

I hope you stick with it Ryan. It took me a whole season to "get" these cars. I still think I have the series record for most "air" time.

I qualified pathetically because, well-- it's me! that's what I do! I can always figure to add one second to my pace in qualy, no matter what the series!
Race was grand, got off to a good start, gave room to Peter in T1 and we all went cleanly, I was sorry to see him go later on. I was happy that I could keep Mr.Smith and Mr.Banta in my horizon for most of the race, but I knew I had nothing for them. Had a brief battle with Mr.Stibling, and then suddenly Mr.Waltz came up and drove off like he had tabasco in his shorts. Incredible drive. Actually, as I said on the server, this is one mighty series-- some VERY good drivers out there, driving some tough cars.
Now to the bad news. Unfortunately due to summer travels, I think I will have to miss the two next events (including Long Beach, which I so wanted to do). I am completely bummed, but unless I want to find myself sleeping in the yard for the rest of the year I don't have a choice.....

So what's wrong with the yard, Francesco?

Here in New England, bloody mosquitos. I can deal with the wifey pooh being mad at me, but sleeping in the yard (while it has obvious restroom benefits) is a disaster with those things. Plus being a city guy originally, a single racoon will have me screaming for mommy. Even the 79mod cannot convince me to face a rodent, and seriously none of you have met my wife when she gives me the "look" when I say: "hem, I...huh...have a race tonight...it's really important..."
