Historic F1: Oscterreichring (Euro)

I feel like such an idiot. Went into the wall on the 1st lap on cold tyres. Car overheats while repairs are being made.

Quali:
Decent time, but did high 1:32's this morning so I wasn't very happy with 1:33.6

Race:
Mad race.

Had much fun with Craig. Drafted him and passed after 10 or so laps, but he couldn't draft me back. :P Craig even touched me on the braking for T1! B'STARD!

Then I acted stupid and braked a bit too late for the last corner, touched the fence with rear left and damaged it. Because of that I had to concede place to Craig. Then I decided I should act even more stupid and push it hard, just in case Craig makes a mistake. I did push and I've hit the wall HARD. First with my nose and front right then the car spun back and hit the wall with rear right too.

Perfect, now I had even more damaged car. Still, I wasn't about to pit 7 laps before the end and loose million seconds repairing it. I tried to stay on the podion, but it was too hard, menaged to get it home in 4th. Christian almost got me in a final corner, but cought me corner too late.

Congrats Rogier, and podium finishers. That was fun Craig.

Storm came by and I was out of electricity...

Router died going into qual, by the time I got it started up again the race had started. Oh well, I hate the track, wasnt a huge fan of the Tyrell I'd decided to run, and two episodes of Top Gear was just as enjoyable... :P

Qualified in 10th and finished in 5th.

Had some good battles along the way,but I was not fast enough to gain more positions.

In the middle of the race I managed to damage my suspension hitting the wall in the final corner before the finishing straight :-(

Almost had Enis at the end after he smashed his car up a little, but he managed to hold on to 4th.

Good race. Next up is Monza,it's going to be crazy :o)

I crashed on lap 4 but watched the race, which had more and more exciting things unfolding as it went on! Very close racing and dramas!

I was surprised that most practice lap times were well off top times I have seen and that had me in a good position with the poor McLaren, so I expected to be able to do 4th or 3rd. I have never had trouble at this track so I expected it to be a simple process.
Hmph...never expect....

Lap 1 and Roberto was having trouble around the last track area and I got a run through turns 5 and 6. I shot around the right side inner line but I suspect he did not realise I was going to be there and he just came across to apex anyway and clipped my front wheels. He spun off and luckily it almost did not affect me.

What it did do was allow Rogier to pass soon after and Bas to be right on my rear wing! And that set up a multi-lap neck and neck battle with some great wheel to wheel racing for positions 3,4,5!
At least the fun of the high demand racing and continual position swapping made up a bit for the crash that was to come!
But if I had been left in the clear I would have romped away. So that clash with Roberto had left its mark indirectly.

I knew I was about 1sec a lap faster but with the constant 3 way battle I could not get past to the front. If I could have I would have been able to move away ahead fine, though zero hope of catching the two higher end cars that were lapping well and thus uncatchable by my McLaren.
BUT they did end up both having notable troubles, which would have been a big bonus then! sheesh.

Then on lap 4 I was right behind Bas into the Chicane and couldn't see the path etc totally clear and I ran along the chicane exit left curbing and then accelerated normally - which I know is a big no-no if you are on the curbing, but I just plain forgot - so it spun off it wildly and just had to hit the barrier and rip off a front wheel!
COULD have spun down the road, or grass...but no, had to wreck the car. Oh well.

This race's results are really going to tighten up the championship!

Those first laps with Peter and Bas were great... again!!! A real shame that you couldn't continue the battle there Peter.

Q'ed 8th. A fantastic start by Bas (from 10th) and a decent one by myself caused us to be 5th and 6th before T1. I had the better line going into the first chicane, so I managed to get just in front of Bas. Then a couple of laps of very close racing followed, sometimes going two-wide through multiple corners.

Under normal conditions Peter would have been too fast for me and I would probably have been too fast for Bas, but because of the battle neither of us managed to get a decent gap.

When Peter crashed I started to open up the gap to Bas, so I thought I was in a safe 3rd position. But then after some laps I noticed Enis was having trouble. He and Craig had opened up a gap of 30 secs or more, but was losing a lot of time. Then 2 laps before the race was over I closed the gap to Enis, and managed to pass him. I was in the lead then (no idea about what happened to Craig).

I had only just enough fuel so I was hoping/thinking I had crossed the finish line for the last time for the victory. So I slowed down. But hey, no checkered flag... Ooops, one more lap to go with Roberto right under my rear wing. Luckily that stupid mistake didn't have any real consequences.

Aaahhh have been waiting a long time to go wheel to wheel with Enis... The last time was S4 in GTI and found it to be clean fair and a heap load of fun...... tsssk to be honest I was waiting for the next opportunity to put him in the wall MWHAHAHAHA

Quali went OK, my pre race preparation showed that a
high 32 - low 33 was on the cards and luckily my lap was fast enough to put me on pole.

Race start went of well with Enis putting on the pressure for the first few laps but then the gap held at 1 - 1.5 second until lap 12. Enis and I had built quite a gap from the rest of the field and were comfortably in the lead. On lap 11, I had a brain fart and lost some time to Enis and he was right on my rear end. Lap 12 he made a pass and took the lead for the first time. We were running nose to tail for a few laps and even made contact in the braking zone of turn 1 of all places. As you can see Enis has uploaded screenies of the "incident" into turn 1. This is where Enis shoots himself in the foot yes?

Post race transcript: Dauti: "You did that on purpose! You doos! You wanted to destroy my radiator!"

No No No Enis... You got that wrong! YOU turned in on me buddy *grins* Take a look at your first screenshot you will see that we are coming up to the braking zone for the 1st chicane... Look carefully... you see that your right side wheels are off the black strip of tarmac on the racing line. Then take a look at your following screenshot where we are almost at the braking point and you will see that your ALL your wheels are now on the inside of the black strip! And you can see my vehicle never moved an inch between the 2 screenies you posted and this is more than proof enough that you were to blame....

And on top of that I waited for you after you missed the chicane from turning in on me and it just shows what a sportsman I am *puffs out chest* You are very lucky you didnt make the podium buddy because I would have punched your lights out for trying to destroy my car like that...

Oh and by the way do you even know what a "doos" is? *grins*

I will be protesting to the stewards about your reckless behaviour and will suggest they wash your mouth out with soap for such lurid behaviour on and off the track! In fact I think they should delete your rankings and make you wear Tims birthday suit instead of Jeff (Yes Mr Stibling you know what you will be wearing to Monza heheheh)

Ok where was I... After the incident with Enis I manged to build a big gap to the rest of the field and it seemed I was cruising for a victory when on lap 21 coming out the last corner I happened to hit a bit of debris on track :( I believe it was the rear wing of Vics' Williams! The unfortunate thing is he only lost it about 5 seconds before I hit it and straight away I could see my front right tyre temps shoot through the roof and the tyre started deflating (this is a true story lol) Managed to limp back to the pits after an excrutiating in lap and nearly collected the car into the barriers on a few occasions.
Changed the tyre and after losing about 70 seconds through all of that came out in 4th place, was spitting blood by this point and drove like a madman for the last 3 laps of the race. Managed to pass Enis again on the last lap and finished 6 seconds behind the leader *groans* 1 more lap is all I needed to take the triple..

Jokes aside it was a great race and enjoyed every minute of it including the puncture I got from hitting Vics wing :)
Congrats to the winners and to Enis for a great race..... I will be seeing you folks in Monza

Damn, I don't wanna read reports lol! Why did I have to lose electricity just 20 min before qual!
