Panoz fun-run

Did about 15 minutes and lost focus/interest. These modern tintops just aren't my cup of tea. I'll keep trying to convince myself otherwise though. :)

well, i vote to make this a non-rank race simply due the the lack of cars in each class.

as for the race, me, Tim, and Tommy C played possium until Tim got Tommy good. so the next lap we all pitted and waited for eachother at pit exit. after that it was a no hold race to the finish between me and Tim as Tommy could keep up (old tires). Tim got be my a nose.

all in all, not the best track for the cars, but made for an interesting race.

I couldn't believe my luck when I saw the 3 GT1 guys all pit and ended up backing into an overall win!

I qualified well and put medium tires on and the car seemed to be very good everywhere on the track. Conor got the jump on me at the start but I just maintained the outside into T1 knowing I would be inside into T2. I couldn't shake Conor at all as I kept making small errors that kept me from building any sort of gap.

Conor drifted back to 2.5 seconds with 3 to go but he put on a real charge and I think if we had one more lap he would have caught me.

Grats to Chris for the GTS win and all the podium finishers.

I can't agree with David as I think it should be posted pre-race if the results will not count towards your ranking. While the turn out was light I was fighting Conor very hard for 45 minutes and I think we deserve the places we earned. I realize the classes were light but we should not be penalized for showing up and racing.

GT2 looks like the only hard-fought class.

The other ones were simple show-up-and-get-a-podium races.

Hey, when the HMFIC whacks you, whatcha gonna do :-) For the record, these cars are undriveable without a rear wing.

I still think when Banta spun on his own and hit that guardrail we should have left him for dead :) Every man for himself!

Actually was pretty fun, those that didn't show missed out, having all 3 classes on course was cool, would have been mucho cooler to have 30 cars. Since the real series is only going to be the 2 faster classes, these FunRun's are going to be our only chance to do that.

Congrats to Richard and Chris for the other 2 class wins. I think Richard is going to take a screenshot of the overall win and use it as his Driver Page background :P

Very fun race with Richard for all 45 min. The distance between us was never more than 3 seconds and it was only more than 2 for a few laps. Very close racing :).

Qual was utter crap for me as I kept missing my brake markers due to my inexperience at this track. Had a faster practice time but I still got second.

I got a really good start when the lights went green and even had to slow up a bit to let the GTR1s through the corner. This allowed Richard to get beside me through T1 and he got me going into T2 as I almost spun out.

The whole race with Richard was really close. For the first few laps, I was about 1 second from him. Then I started closing in and got onto his bumper at one point. I even had a chance to overtake him after the long straight but withdrew that idea because I never felt comfortable braking with these cars and I would have easily slammed into him. About 3/4ths of the way through, we hit some traffic and that spread us out to 2.5 sec. Towards the end, though, I started closing in some more, little by little, but it was too late and finished about 1 second from him.

Not a bad race at all despite the lack of numbers attending, at least for Richard and I. I was alot happier with my pace during the race compared to practice and I think I learned a few things because of it.

On the rankings issue, I am not really for fun-runs counting towards the ranking anyway as they are just meant to be laid back and enjoyable without having to deal with points or what not. Yes Richard, the battle was hard fought, but at least we got a lot of fun out of it and I think that is what counts the most :).

Personally I had a great time, even in only a 4-car race. Myself, David, and Tommy had a verbal agreement to just hang together for the first 3/4 of the race. No hot laps, no major challenges... just keep nose to tail and enjoy the drive. We did just that and even swapped positions numerous times when each other made mistakes big enough to allow a no-risk pass.

Here we are, 35 minutes into the race and still nose to tail and I was having a blast. I knew the final 2-3 laps would go balls to the wall, but until that time we were out there and having FUN. It wasn't until David got me thinking about tire wear that I lost my concentration and hammered Tommy in the final corner. I dont even think I got my foot to the brakes before hitting poor Tommy. So, the top-3 GTR-1 cars all went in to pit to get back into a pack and get Tommy fixed up. Turns out that Bill's consistent laps paid off and he took over the GTR-1 lead while we all sat there in pit lane. We had to go chase him down in the final few minutes... which was even more fun.

I really got a kick out of having all 3 classes on track. The track itself did great for multi-class racing and the cars are even better. They all have about the same cornering speeds so the only advantage one has over the other is on the straights where it is safe and easy to pass. Actually, those GT2 cars were out braking my GTR-1 which is great... very hard for me to punt them that way :-)

Lots of fun guys... I will get a few more up and running before the PLMS kicks off in May.
