TPSCC fun-run

What can I say about this race? It went ok as far as results go, i wasn't expecting much since I never drove these cars before. Qualifying obviously is not very important on such long races, but I made a mess of it anyway and qualified poorly. It's ok, if I had any skill I would make it up later since it's such a long race.

Not so, turns out i was actually doing ok in the first half of the race, made it up to 4th. The second half wasn't as good to me though, i was getting bored and the car was pretty banged up so I was slow and not thinking about strategy at all. Then I spun out a couple times, so I deserve 7th.

All-in-all, not a bad outing. Encouraging was that I made the car better during the race - air pressure changes, spring rubber, track bar and flare tweaks reacted as I hoped they would, and I was able to get better temperature balance. Was hoping to have green flag stops, but that will come later. Didn't want to race hard early, so just found a hidey-hole in traffic and tried to let track come to me. Worked up to 3rd, then got tangled in that crash under yellow...and the icing was a stop-and-go when I couldn't get the car behind me to go past. Can't wait for Marty...errr, Virginia. These cars are a hoot on flat short tracks.

Thank heavens this was a fun run. I was completely out of character. I made unbelievable rookie mistakes. I caused other racers to have a much more difficult night. That includes causing an accident under yellow. I have no excuses, it was just stupid. I apologize to all that I harmed in that incident.

The first part of the race was terrific fun.

One note, the caution laps are set 1 to short. Lap cars don't really have a chance to pit and civilly rejoin the pack before the green flag falls.

That was a blast!....till I crashed.

I think I am getting the hang of these cars :). The car felt great for most of practice and a lot of the race. I was able to contend for the lead a bunch of times and it was very fun dicing it up with Tom there :). I really wished I could have finished the race but it looked like I wasn't going to either way since I had things to take care of about 3/4ths of the way through the race so my crash was rather timely. Oh well...

Qualified ok but really didn't have a race setup. To be honest after 66 laps, I had enough. Got slammed during a caution,& the car never felt right after that& spun by myself twice. For me all the cautions are too much, the race just drags out forever. The green laps are fun & I thought evryone in the race did a nice job.

I had a much better car than my finish position indicates thanks to Bill`s kindness in sending me a setup.One of these days it will all come together and I`ll get a decent finish.I had fun though.

Had a blast out on the track!!!I was able to bring home the Win with a 1st for me(pole and track record)nice to finnally add those to my drivers page.Was a littel supprised that coner never put down any Q laps(not sure if you missed Q or if that was what you wanted?)
I hear the same thing from alot of you RC guys that the racing gets boring for you.This is really what makes stock car racing so diff.You need to be able to keep your head in the game.
At the start of the race i decided to push my car hard to see what she had for me and how It would do againts the others.We had a good green run and the car felt great.But i could tell that if we had a full gas run under green that i had pushed the car to hard and would have slowed alot more then i would like.On the next restart I was able to pull away and just try and set a good race pace.I could tell Coner was making his way up though the field and would be looking for me. I think by the 3rd restart he was in 2nd.I wanted to see how much he had for me so I raced him hard for about 4 or 5 laps with him in my draft and pushing me.We still had alot of laps left and I was starting to get a push so I let up into T1 and let him take the low side for the pass.Now i wanted to see how his car would do with me in his draft pushing him.I could tell that I could get a run on him and pass but i wanted to apply alot of pressure to him and use up some of his tires because i could tell that if we had a full run he would be fast.Well it paid off after driving on top of him for a few laps he started to get lose a few more laps and he spun(almost did not make it by)
After Coner was gone I was almost sure of the win.But Eric Harlen had me wondering.Eric was running a very smart race.With alot of patiance and luck he was now looking to maybe pull off a upset with like 15 or 20 to go.On our last Restart he was right there(Nice job Eric)But I could hold my gas down all they way around the 1st few laps.And after that it was just bring it home mode!!!TY for the raceing guys was fun.

I didn't think I overdrove it in my final stint. That is just how the car handled after a few laps on the tires, unfortunately. I expected the car to get a big push in the middle of the corner and a get a little loose off after a long stint but I wasn't expecting the tri-oval to feel like I was riding on ice and that was what led me to crashin'. I think I know what the problem was and I should be able to fix it and come back to some other cookie cutter and possibly finish a race for once :).

Loads of fun for sure. I think we as a group have improved our racing in these cars. Between a little more seat time and the improved rfm file "Thanks to Tim for his hard work and tinkering" we have a race-able series coming at some point down the road.
