Arizona Shootout

For me, this was tremendous fun. I thought the event went very well. The short format with no yellows worked to provide a more resource oriented thought pattern for me when I was working on my setup. I had to be able to conserve my tires enough to be competitive at the end without giving up to much speed. It's a different strategy to be sure.

Well, that was an interesting race...

Didn't have the fastest car out there the but it sure felt good and handled really well throughout the race.

From the start, I grabbed the lead almost immediately after Matt fishtailed it into the outside wall. It looked like it took out some people behind me after seeing so many skidmarks coming back around the next lap. For the first few laps, it looked like Jarrod had a faster car and kept up with me but he soon spun out and left me alone. It was then that my damn car started overheating. I guess 50% grill tape was too much? ;)

It was a short race so I continued on and didn't worry about my engine too much. Kept on trucking with pretty consistent laptimes and at one point, my internet stuttered and sent my car into the T1 wall...no serious damage though. Kept going and to my surprise, the car continued to stick to the bottom of the track really well while everyone else was spinning out and flying around :P. It stayed that way to the end. Fortunately the engine didn't give out and I didn't get caught up in anyone's' wrecks :).

Good race all. Probably can't attend the Martinsville race but should be back after that.

Had a fun race. I never looped it, but I tried a couple of times.Once I had it 90 degrees sideways and somehow saved it.Didn`t have much tire left at the end.Especially the RF.

Nice win Conor. I thought I had a decent setup. Felt like a diff. car for race. Kept locking the front brakes entering the turn putting me into a spin multiple times. It was fun, hope I didnt mess anyone up.

Thanks R2P for hosting the sprints. I think this is a good format to get some seat time and learn what these cars do in 3/4 pit cycle. I wasn't particularly fast during practice but I knew that it was going to be tire management and fast hot laps wouldn't matter so I worked on the set to get it good for 40 laps. I didn't get it quite where it should have been but it was OK. In the first 10 laps I settled in and thought to come off my pace a bit and see if the leaders would come back to me some as they had got way out early. I was caught by surprise when I thought it may be time to start racing and there was only two laps left...Doh! its a sprint. I left a lot on the table. My right sides had yellow bars with only one or two black dots so I had lots of tires left. Crew chief error for sure. But I really enjoyed the event. The cars take a lot of concentration to drive as any slight overdriving causes them to wash up in the corners. Like one of the guys said "they are a beast."

Never been a particularly good track for me. Took Bills base set and tweaked it a bit, converted it to coil-bind, freed it up some. Played the tire management game through the first half, driving with temps displayed and watching RF-RR split to make sure I had something for later. Sprint races take a different mindset - pit stops are out of the equation, so no chance to adjust. Had some great racing late with everyone fighting worn tires...that's when they do indeed become a beast.

This is a good format - length should be adjusted track to track to give something close to a full fuel run (for shorter tracks, perhaps increase wear and fuel to 2x to keep a smaller number of laps). Thnaks for hosting these, Tim. I will make as many as I can - Fri and Sat can be tough nights for me.
