Back in 1963, Jack Griffith had 2 sports cars sitting in his garage. An AC Cobra 289 and a TVR Grantura. Like any good gear head, he got the idea of putting the powerful Ford V8 into the streamlined Grantura body. It was such a success that Griffith started selling the V8 engined TVRs in the US in 1963, calling it the Griffith 200. It featured a 350bhp 289 Ford V8, on a slim 1000kg chassis. In '64, several improvements were made on the 200, and was renamed the Griffith 400. With upgraded suspension, and cooling, as well as minor body changes, the Griffith 400 was a much more polished car than the 200.
The lightweight combined with the big Ford V8 means the car is a rocket sled being led by the nose. Being smooth with the power is key to going fast, and only the brave are advised to go full throttle when the car isn't pointing straight ahead. Enter the corners clean and neat, try not to be too impatient through corners, and feed the power slowly. Find the sweet spot in throttle modulation though, and the car will reward you with quick lap times and a smile on your face. - Jerry Chen
