Porsche 906
The only true race car in the pack, the 906 is a true prototype. It contained all the lessons learned by Porsche from the 904, including an extremely light tubular space frame and fiberglass body. It debuted in the 1966 Daytona 24 Hours, and scored a 6th overall and class victory. Its gull wing doors, panoramic driver's view, small shape and size were in stark contrast to some of the big, heavy sports cars at the race. Various configurations and versions of the 906 went on to many victories in the hands of privateers in events like the Targa Florio, and Nurburgring. Weighing only 700kg, the 220bhp 2.0 Litre Porsche flat six provides ample grunt to get the 906 around a track. A low center of gravity and a mid-engined configuration gives it great handling characteristics. Its only downside is the historic treaded Michelins it is forced to wear, but it still handles flawlessly and stops on a dime. Hard to get wrong, drive the 906 like a true sportscar. A small amount of sliding to help get the car through tight corners is okay, but it goes best when driven neatly. - Jerry Chen
