Spa-Francorchamps '04

Since the early 1920s, the Spa-Francorchamps circuit has resounded with a thousand and one fabulous tales of those heroic times in which they drove on earth roads at the wheel of awesome machines. Racing in the Ardennes was not new. As early as 1902 there had been a Circuit des Ardennes. This was the very first closed circuit to be used. At the time all the major races were from city to city. In 1939 human imagination gave birth to a unique bend. Raidillon - Eau Rouge was to become famous throughout the world, the cynosure of every driver. As motor sport has evolved, the circuit has always been kept up to FIA requirements in terms of safety. From 1921 to 1978 circuit reamined pretty much the same with the excpetion of some modifications. Length through that period was around 14 km. In 1979 circuit went through serious modifications and current shape of circuit was formed then. Part in between La Source and Kemmel remained almost untouched while the rest was modified. Till today it has gone under some minor modifications, with biggest being in 1981 when "Bus stop" was added. Despite being thoroughly modified in 1978 circuit remained very challenging for drivers with veriety of different types of corners. It has 12 right turns and 11 left turns, direction is clockwise. - Enis Dauti
