Laguna Seca was opened in 1957; in its original form, it was 1.9 miles long. In the early 80s, a new section was added to bring the length to 2.2 miles. Between the 1995 and 1996 seasons, revisions are being made to the course in the vicinity of the pits to support the increased sizes of the fields in the Indycar race.
